I’m frustrated

how to change order of mailboxes in All Folders

I have 3 mailboxes in my Thunderbird mail, and I was very happy with the order they were in, the first is mail on a private system, the 2nd gmail, and the 3rd a mailbox in an "official" mail system. Suddenly, the gmail is at top, directly under "Local Folders". Yet, if I look at "Account settings" I still see them mailboxes in the correct order. The reason I don't like gmail at top is (a) that I prefer my own mail at top, and (b) the gmail acct has lots of subfolders, pushing my main mailbox practically off the screen.

  • First, check all the views: View|Folders|All is the most "transparent".

You can change the order of account folders using an add-on such as Manually Sort Folders, but I think that misses the point of how it got jumbled in the first place. Any chance you've accidentally drag-and-dropped the gmail folder into its new location?

  • I usually have the view at View|Folders|All, as you suggest. There, and in "unified folders" I see the gmail (or gmail inbox) at the top. In the "unread" gmail is 2nd, and my preferred is first. In favourites I have nothing. In recent, gmail is at the top again.
Although I've pretty sure I didn't, given the way the mouse works, there could be a chance that I accidently drag-and-dropped the gmail folder into its new location.
But the first thing I did when I saw this change in my mailbox when I restarted the PC today was to try to drag-and-drop the gmail box back down, or my preferred mailbox back up. Neither budged. This seemed to indicate to me that dragging-and-dropping folders doesn't work in Firefox. SHOULD IT??? If so, how?
I agree that I'd like to solve the problem of what happened before installing a sort add-on.
    Any ideas?
