I have just installed AVAST Anti Virus program. I have received the following error message:
"AVAST has detected a secure connection from your mail program (process thunderbird.exe) to the POP server 22.214.171.124 (126.96.36.199)
This type of connection cannot be checked for viruses. Please disable SSL/TLS in your mail client so that the Mail Scanner can scan your email. The Mail Scanner will provide the SSL/TLS security itself."
How do I " Please disable SSL/TLS in your mail client so that the Mail Scanner can scan your email. ?
Thanks for any and all help.

CHAMP0Don't do it! Let Thunderbird use it's SSL/TLS.
You are better off with SSL/TLS and no virus scanning of your mail. The anti virus program, if it does it's job properly does not need to be scanning your mail as it will detect and stop any virus as soon as it tries to execute.
Avast has it's 'resident shield' looking for virus like activity and stopping it. Thunderbird does a lot of it's own security work, scripts (which is how most malware is transmitted in emails) simply do not work in Thunderbird.
