How to get e-mail from other drive.

So, my XP o/s crashed recently, BSD of course. Since then I have rebuilt it on another hard drive and have the original drive as my secondary. I can find all my Thunderbird e-mail and was able to get my address book but cannot seem to get my old e-mail. I am getting new e-mail fine just would like to have access to the old stuff too. The TB I downloaded seems to be a bit newer than the one I was running seeing it looks a bit different. Can I make my old mail show up as a different folder in the unified folders section or just grab it all as it was before? One thing I want to add is that my old setup had a couple different folders because I had e-mail imported from Outlook a few years back. Yes, I'm an e-mail hoarder :-) Thx.

  • Mike, given that you have already set up the new version with new emails already in there we will bypass the transfer as it would replace your new mails with the old.

The best bet I think would be to install the import/export tools
https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/... and import the individual MBOX file into their own folders.

  • I’m good to go.
Here's what I did to get my e-mails back. I created a new e-mail account that was not real and set it not to check e-mail. With TB closed I then dragged my old e-mail into the new folder using XP's Explore. I had to do one folder at a time because I had multiple old Inbox's. After I did one, I opened TB, saw the e-mail I just moved in the fake account and then moved the e-mail I wanted to keep to a folder I created in my real mail account then deleted the empty folders in the fake one. I did this with multiple folders until I got all that I was looking for each time closing TB before moving the files. In the end I deleted the fake account. Maybe this will help someone in the future.

  • I’m annoyed.
Well, slight update. Sometimes you lose your folder of e-mail when deleting the fake account but it seems to work better if you create a folder in "local folders" and dump the mail in there. TB seems to have issues moving e-mail. At one point I was copying a large folder from the fake account to the real one (before I started moving them to the local folder) and it would only copy a few and then stop with no message that anything was wrong. Go figure. At least I have most of my old mail, 95% of it is probably trash. Enough time spent on this. Thanks.
