Thunderbird 7 iCloud IMAP and SMTP settings WAS:iCloud? (Apple-Token authentication)

Can Thunderbird be used with iCloud? If not, will there be an update to enable it to do this?

Thanks for your help.

  • How do I set up my Apple iCloud IMAP mail to come into Thunderbird?

Does Thunderbird need to be updated to receive iCloud IMAP?
    I am using Thunderbird 12.0.1

Thanks for adding my question to this thread. I read through it and was getting discouraged because everyone is trying to get Apple mail through Thunderbird on Windows. My goodness. I'm on a Mac (OS 10.6.8).

I tried a combination of some suggestions here and it works!

IMAP Settings for sending email Tools | Account Settings ... | click on "Server Settings" underneath your me.com / mac.com account:

    Server name: imap.mail.me.com Port 993
Username: yourusername@mac.com ( or @me.com) [use full email address]
    Connection Security: SSL/TLS
    Authentication method: Normal Password

SMTP Settings for sending email Tools | Account Settings ... | Outgoing Server (SMTP) | select whatever you've named your Apple mail outgoing account (I had named mine "Mac - smtp.me.com" | Edit...

    Description: Mac
    Server Name: smtp.me.com
    Port 587
    Connection Security: STARTTLS
    Authentication Method: Normal Password
User Name: yourusername@mac.com ( or @me.com) [use full email address]

Click OK and restart Thunderbird. You will need to enter your me.com password for the first time it connects to download mail and for the first time you send a message. Be sure to tell it to store this in your Keychain Access.

  • The instructions on Apple's web site are slightly wrong. You should not include the domain portion of the username (use "user", not "user@mac.com" or "user@icloud.com"). I've gotten it to work this way using Thunderbird and Alpine.

The servers are imap.mail.me.com:993/ssl and smtp.mail.me.com:587/tls
