IMAP folders not displayed
IMAP folders not displayed
IMAP folders not displayed, signature disappears, settings are not saved in new T-Bird version installation. The problem as I see it is that the latest version of Thunderbird changes the settings in our previous version. It changed my folders view from All to Unified which caused my first problem; then I found it had changed my choice of text placement on replies and forwards to below the quote (I prefer above the quote) AND it removed my signature.

Did your IMAP folders not reappear after switching to the "All Folders" view ?
For the other two problems, the update should not have modified your reply-placement or your signature. Keep in mind that (at least in TB3) those are account-specific settings, so which account is the "currently-selected" account will determine which settings are used when formulating the reply.
Do you have a backup/copy of your TB2.x preferences (prefs.js) ? If so, please compare the TB2 settings for "mail.identity.id#.reply_on_top" (where "#" is a number) to those in settings in TB3. Not having ever used TB2, it's possible that TB2 only had a "global" option: "mail.identity.default.reply_on_top"; if that's the case, I can certainly file a bug report that the upgrade does not auto-populate the account-specific settings with your previously-configured "global" option.
The TB3 setting which controls the attachment of the signature is "mail.identity.id#.attach_signature. Since TB3 has (so I'm told) more options for the signature than TB2 did (e.g., being able to specify it in the main "Account Settings" window for the account), migration of ALL possible settings for TB3 from TB2 isn't possible. Nonetheless, if you'd specified a signature should be attached in your TB2 settings, that preference should have been reflected in your TB3 settings. If comparison of TB2/TB3 settings reveals your preference was not "propogated", I can submit a bug report for that, too.
Meanwhile, you can adjust the settings as you'd like them in "Tools->Account Settings", then "Composition & Addressing" under the account(s), and let me know the status of the "folders not displayed" problem.
I had already fixed all of the problems prior to sending this message. I sent it because others have told me they had the same experience. In the past when updating T-Bird our settings have remained the same. This time they were changed without warning and I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out what was wrong.
You wrote "I can certainly file a bug report that the upgrade does not auto-populate the account-specific settings with your previously-configured "global" option."
I think you should do that. Thanks for your prompt response.
While others may have the same problem(s), they usually come here looking for answers, not necessarily confirmation that they are not alone. ;-)
Since your description did not mention that you had fixed the problem(s), nor mention how you fixed the problems, did you do anything differently than that which I suggested in my reply ? If so, by all means please post those answers here -- especially if the are better than mine -- so that others may benefit.
Lastly, about the bug reports. I'll file them, but I do need some additional information:
- The TB version you were using prior to the upgrade
- The "build" string from the "About Thunderbird" dialog box (of 3.1.2)
- If you have the backup mentioned in my previous reply, the applicable variable settings from the TB2 prefs.js
- If you did a backup of your profile after the upgrade, but before modification to correct the problems, the applicable variable settings from the TB3 prefs.js
Having all this information "in hand" will make it much more likely that the problem will be corrected sooner, rather than later.
As noted in my previous comment (above), I had purposefully set one of my POP accounts to replicate C. Ellicott's environment: "Composition & Addressing" options were set to "Automatically quote the original message when replying" Then, "start my reply above the quote", and "Include signature for replies".
I have just now upgraded that system from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2, as a result of the automatic upgrade process. The previous settings for the account were retained; I was unable to reproduce the reported symptoms.
The folder display problem is, however, a known "glitch"; it is necessary to choose another folder view, then return to the desired folder view, in order to refresh the view after the upgrade.
