I’m frustrated

New Thunderbird Address Won't Receive Email

I just tried to use Thunderbird for the first time. I let it automatically configure my 2 mail accounts. I had earlier written down all the info from the configuration in Outlook Express on my other computer, and the way Thunderbird configured things was the same. The mail in my Gmail server (100 msgs) successfully populated the Thunderbird Inbox. But Thunderbird chugged away for quite a while, saying at the bottom of the screen that it was downloading the 900 msgs from my other server--but they are not in my Inbox. Where could they be? Thanks, Linda

  • Linda, you have two accounts, you will have 2 inbox entries.

If you are having difficulty locating them change your folder view from the default unified to ALL

  • Thanks, Matt. I do have both accounts showing separate Inbox entries. Thunderbird showed messages downloading somewhere but are not in my non-Gmail account Inbox. I just did a test--using Thunderbird, I wrote a message in my non-Gmail account and sent it to my Gmail account. It arrived immediately! Then I wrote a msg in my Gmail account and sent it to my non-Gmail account. Thunderbird said it sent, but it did not arrive in my Inbox. So that means the problem must be with my incoming mail, right? Thunderbird automatically configured the account, and the settings matched the settings in Outlook Express for this account. Do you have any advice about this?

    Thanks very much,

    Linda

  • Yay! I figured out the problem! I checked my server settings again and I had only put my username in the allotted space for incoming mail--not my whole email address (I compared it to my Gmail account which had the whole email address in that space). As soon as I entered my whole email address, my messages started downloading. Thanks very much for the nudge to explore further.
