I’m very frustated

Why are my messages printing with huge font

My emails are printing with huge fonts. I've tried my primary printer (MFC-Brother 7420) and pdf995 and the same thing happens, spreading the message over many pages.

    Hi Tom:

I print all the time to my Brother printer MFC-7220 from my Mac running Thunderbird 2 and 3 beta 3 and have no problems but it's hard to figure out how to help because you didn't provide enough details.

In order to help further please

Provide lots of details about your problem - In the description of your problem, list your mail service provider (e.g. gmail, hotmail, comcast, etc), email protocol (POP or IMAP), operating system (Windows XP/Vista, Mac OS X, Linux, etc), Thunderbird version, extensions you have installed, what you did, what happened and what you expected. The more information you can provide, the better the community can help you

My guess is you are on Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 and are on Mac Leopard or Windows XP, but please let us know your exact config.

Finally perhaps the following will help:

    1. Printing Tools Extension allows you to specify the font
    https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/...

    2. Perhaps setting the font size to a smaller font will help:
    Tools -> Options -> Display -> Formatting -> Fonts...

Thanks, Roland! I just saw this response (I had thought I'd get an email alert). I really appreciate it.
    1) Mozilla Thunderbird version 2.0.0.23 (20090812)
    2) Pop to a shared for my company's domain (hosted at Purehost.com)
    3) Windows XP Home 2002, SP2

When actually printing to the brother, it seems to be huge margins and it spreads a short 1 page email over very many pages(unusable).

What I did, what happened, etc: When I go to Print Preview or Print, all email messages show in a large font and with huge margins, so that only a few words or sentences show per page. See attached. Margins are set to 1.0 all around and Scale is at 100%. It does this with both the Brother Printer selected, and with pdf995 (a postcript printer driver utility that creates pdfs).

    Hi Tom:

I installed PDF 995 and printed out an email to PDF on Windows XP running Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 and the fonts were fine i.e. normal size.

Again, please check your Thunderbird fonts:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Font_settin...

and also make sure the email in question doesn't have large fonts

At this point, if this doesn't help, not sure we can help further. Perhaps you can post the screenshots of your Thunderbird font settings and your File-> Page Setup settings?

  • I’m quite frustrated
    Roland,

I think we have a misunderstanding here. Look at the screenprints. If you look at the one from 2 days ago, you will see the font isn't all that large, but the margins are enormous. I posted the screenprint of the margin settings. This is NOT a situation where I don't understand fonts or margins. This is a strange, quirky bug that happens whenever I try to print emails (not one specific email or session). I suspect that the assist I need is from a developer or technician who understands where this corruption is likely to lie. I would consider re-installing Thunderbird, but I don't want to lose all of my history of email (I've been on Thunderbird for at least 5 years...maybe 10?).

Thank you for whatever you can do. This is a frustrating and persistent problem.

    I appreciate all your efforts.

    Tom

    Hi Tom:

Sorry I wasn't clear but I did set my margins to 1.0 exactly like you did and the fonts and the margins are fine printing to PDF995.

  • I am having exactly the same problem. Did you ever get an answer or solve your printing problem? I have always been able to print fine until this week. Been using Mozilla and Thunderbird for over 10 years. Tried all margin settings and tried reducing the font size using the scale option. Cannot get emails to print correctly. What should take 2 pages runs over 32 pages.
