I’m annoyed

keeps asking for a cd to install/uninstall

I have had difficulty installing / uninstalling MozyHome. When it gets to the "removing applications" step, it asks me to insert the MozyHome Remote Back-Up disk. As I've only ever downloaded it from the Internet, there is no cd-rom disk.

I contacted Mozy help because Mozy was no longer backing up my files. While the technician was able to help me to start Mozy backing up again, he said that the error message asking for a cd-rom was a problem with my computer and not something he could help me with.

I've scouted about on the internet for others with a similar problem but haven't seen one. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • I've seen that happen before when the install files are located on a network drive or something instead of being located on the local drive. Are you saving the mozy installer file to the hard drive or a network drive, and are you installing it to the local hard drive or a network drive?

If both are being done on your local hard drive, then you probably unzip the mozy installer, and point it to the msi file within the mozy installer.
    • Hi. Thanks for answering. They should both be on the hard drive. I have a wireless router but usually only my desktop is connected to it. Occasionally, I'll also have my laptop on the wireless network when I want to work in another room.

How would I go about verifying this? I just did a search including hidden and system folders, and the mozy.msi file did not turn up.

  • to verify it, you should probably just download it again, but when it asks you to save or run, save it to your desktop. Then run it, and since it is on your desktop that will verify it is on your computer. (the download can be found at mozy.com/downloads/mozysetup.exe)

The MSI file is actually located inside the mozysetup.exe file. To get it out you have to extract it. To do this it would have to be done from the command line and you would navigate to the location of the file and type in mozysetup.exe /extract . if you want to do that and need more detailed steps I could give them to you.

  • I’m dogged
Hi. i've done that. The "installing MozyHome Remote Backup" window gets to the point where it wants to remove applications when the window asking for the cd-rom pops up. i've searched for the mozy.msi file on my hard drive at this point to try to direct it to that folder location. However, when I browse to the temp file where it's located, I get another error message saying essentially that this mozy.msi is not a valid installation.

If i close the installation that asks for the cd-rom, the file disappears from the temp file location. So I can't even use the temporary copy.

  • Ok, walk through these steps:

    1. go to my computer, c:\, and right click, create a new folder and call it mozy.

    2. go to this website and download the mozy installer file and save it to c:\mozy: mozy.com/downloads/mozysetup.exe

    3. click on start, run and type in (this is for XP, if you have vista or 7, you can just click start and type it in the search): cmd
    and then press enter

    4. in the command line window that comes up type in: cd\mozy
    and press enter

    5. then type in: mozysetup.exe /extract
    and press enter

Now you should have the mozy.msi file inside of C:\mozy folder. When the installer asks for the msi or a cd, browse to c:\mozy\mozy.msi.

Let me know if this doesn't work

  • Hi. Sorry if I'm being picky but I don't want to waste your time.

In step 2, you sat "go to this website". I'm assuming that you mean go to the mozy website.

And when I type in where to save the file, there should be a colon between c:\mozy and mozy.com/downloads/mozysetup.exe. (Sorry, but I've not seen a colon in the middle before).

  • The website to download mozy is:

    mozy.com/downloads/mozysetup.exe

I want you to save it to c:\mozy (the folder i had you create).

You are right, there shouldn't be a colon in between. The way I wrote it is confusing, I was trying to say, save it to c:\mozy and this is the website:
    mozy.com/downloads/mozysetup.exe

But the way I wrote made it look together. I apologize.

  • I’m frustrated
    Hi Mike,
I tried your suggestions and it still gets stuck removing the application. The message I get now says that "The file c:\mozy\mozy.msi is not a valid installation package for the product MozyHome Remote Backup.Try to find the installation package 'mozy.msi' in a folder from which you can install MHRB."

Just for the fun of it, I tried first with mozy.msi and then with mozy-x62.msi. Zilch.

  • This is really strange. Maybe you should try to uninstall with Microsoft's Windows Installer Clean Up Utility. You should be able to search for it and download it off of microsoft's website.
