Roadmap: what we're working on (March update)

Hi,

Here's an update on the My ASICS development roadmap (see our previous update).

Over the past couple of weeks, we have:

  • increased the compatibility with browsers to cover Internet Explorer 7 and 8

  • launched in Spain

  • translated the interview with Tagawa-san that introduces the training programs into several languages

Over the coming couple of weeks, we will:

  • add race-day pace guidance

  • continue fixing the speed/distance units problem (tickets #788 and #625)

  • launch in the US, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden

  • upgrade our emailing infrastructure

  • increase the visibility of the runs descriptions and pace guidance in the calendar view

  • improve the design and usability of the "log a run" dialog box

  • further improve system performance

  • launch "My Performance"

  • offer a printable version of "My Plan"

Later in the pipeline:

  • maps preparation and editing

  • gear editing and stats

Keep the feedback coming!

-Raphaël

PS. I think we might settle on a monthly rhythm for this roadmap update.

Hey Raphael! How was Tokyo? Did you finish the way you wanted? Hope so and sure hope to be running a full marathon myself next year. This year I will stick to the half-marathons once every 3 months or so.

About the roadmap: its cool to keep the roadmap rhythm at once every month. The thing that puzzles me however is: why launch in all those extra countries and not solve a couple of issues first? My guess is that users in all those extra countries will encounter the same 'problems' as the users in the countries that the new site is already live in...

For instance: first get the 'myperformance tab' to work, offer a print-out and the possibility to move a work-out to one day before or one day after today (as was possible in the previous myasics) and then consider to launch in other countries ;-).

Think getsatisfaction and asics would please a lot of potential customers...

    Hey Maarten,

Tokyo went really well actually, the weather was brilliant (for the first time in 5 years, according to my colleagues), I was a bit ill but really fit, and I improved my time (from New York 18 months ago) by 15 minutes, so I was pretty happy!

You are making a fair point about releasing new countries. However, the transition situation is quite costly and complicated, where we have to maintain (and pay for) two systems, rather than just one, so we're trying to manage this in parallel and get to a normalized "new" situation that's a bit more sustainable.

Also, I don't really want to withhold the new My ASICS training programs from runners -- they deliver a significant increase in performance, with lower mileage requirements.

"Release early, release often": it's a powerful approach, but indeed there are tradeoffs we make -- I hope we've made the right ones!

Thanks for your support and kind words, best regards,

    -Raph

    Hello Raphael,

very cool that you improved your time by 15 minutes. That is quite a bit, however I don't know what your previous time was. Have you been running more marathons earlier in your life or have you started to run marathons just 'recently'?

I plan to run the Rotterdam Marathon in 2012 and I am very sure I will be training on a myasics schedule. The daily emails work perfectly for me, and I feel they work better than the emails I got from the old system.

Of course you've got a big point on having two separated systems next to each other. And also on "Release early, release often". I think most of the perception of the new approach isn't created by the bugs people find, but by the way you people react to them.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Hi, The feedback knob is not working. I am not sure if this is part of the upgrading process as well? Furthermore it seems that you can only choose 5, 10 km or half or full marathon when making a new scheme. I would like to make a 10 miles screen. is that possible somehow?

      Hi Michiel,

Could you give a bit more detail about the feedback tab not working? It really should, so we want to know if there's a problem!

There are indeed plans only for 5, 10, half or marathon. 5 and 10 miles will be added shortly, I expect next month.

Thanks for your support and interest, best regards,

      -Raphaël
