Christmas Redemption

While I understand it's a privilege for us to be involved in this program and I am very appreciative, I am also very frustrated. I saw that your Christmas rewards are now going to be on the Beta site. My mother, father, sister, friend, husband and I all have coke rewards accounts, but none of us have twitter(and none of us want it) and therefore have no way to earn status upgrades to redeem "gold level" rewards. Will we be able to do the Christmas rewards redemption without having a higher status? If not, we will have wasted all our time entering our codes all year. We literally save just to do this all year and it's the only thing we redeem. Please let me know so I can tell everyone. Thanks.

Hi Mandy, We’re sorry to hear that you are disappointed with our Holiday program moving to Beta this year. We believe this move will allow members to have a richer, more rewarding experience.

While completing Challenges will earn you Status, simple acts like completing your profile, watching videos, choosing your favorite brands, inviting friends and sharing the program on Facebook will also move you along. Definitely check out our Facebook page as many members post tips and tricks to warning Status.

You do not have to be at Gold Status in order to participate in the Holiday program, however, we recommend earning Status to ensure you have access to all of the Catalogs. Please keep an eye out for additional program information including exciting details about rewards and sweeps coming soon!

What? B. Szuminsky, I heard you say Coke is screwing its loyal customers for the holidays. How is that a "richer, more rewarding experience"?!  "Richer" for Coke maybe, cause you got the sales out of dooping us all year, and then drop your bomb. Like Mandy, I do not have (nor want) Twitter or Facebook accounts, and never dreamed that would be a hard stop to actually even SEEING, much less, redeeming rewards in the reward program.  I won't allow you to force me to create invasive social accounts. So I guess I saved and entered codes ALL frigging year for a sharp stick to the eye. I have bronze status (whatever that means cause I don't even understand the Beta site), nowhere near gold. NOT that that should matter.  A customer shouldn't have to stand on their head and shoot fire balls from their mouths (or other extraneous acts) to 'unlock' & cash in rewards...I already did my end of the deal by showing my brand loyalty all year.  Know what Coke gets in return for Christmas...loss of a long-time customer.  Merry Christmas and Goodwill to you too. You have 2 wks left to re-vamp your program...will you do that for your customers and ignore us?

I would also like to voice my extreme displeasure with this change in the program.  I have spent hours upon hours entering codes from bottle tops that are impossible to read in order to accumulate points for the 12 Days Christmas promotion that everyone seemed to like. One thing I am NOT happy and thankful about is Coke's decision to change the program.  Way to put a damper on the holiday season this year.

I too agree, this is very upsetting, don't like the beta one bit, don't understand it. This is very frustrating.  Why do companies continue to try and fix things that aren't broke!?

I drink about 8-10 cans of coke a day. I am a very dedicated Coke customer for life, now you want us to jump through extra hoops.  I too save my points all year for the Christmas Gift Cards.

Beta sucks in my opinion,  please reconsider this mess. What a way for Coke to say Merry Christmas to us.  I have a facebook and twitter account but I really don't use them, don't have time to tell the world what I am doing every min. of my day.

Coke please don't think that your users are all into social media. There are many reasons that some can't sign up for those social media accounts, maybe some ex-lover is stalking them,  it would not be safe for them.

Re-think this Beta,  I don't see many saying how much they love the beta, do you?

I think Coke should suck it up and wait until NEXT year to change the holiday rewards to a "Beta only" thing.  Since you are automatically a member of My Coke Rewards when you join Beta, no one would lose out this year, and a full year's warning for next year's 12 days of holiday rewards is sufficient notice to all of us who do not tweet or message people.  A quick demographic study would probably show that income/spending and tweeting/messaging are not positively correlated, so you've targeted the group with the least buying power with this plan. Why in the world would Coke risk upsetting their wealthiest customers?   What marketing genius came up with that idea?

I received this email response from Coke about my complaint:

"Thank you for contacting MyCokeRewards.com.  We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

In case you didn't know, you can enter codes for points or to participate in challenges on MCR Beta and you are not required to use a social media account.  Beta has fun content for everyone like trivia, recipes, and polls that do not require a Twitter account.  And there are many ways to earn status!  By simply signing up, logging in, and completing your profile will jump-start your earning.  When you level up, not only will you unlock bonus points, you'll get early access to new rewards and exclusive access to others.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again."

It's nice to receive the same "canned" response I've seen on other forums.  In my opinion, the Beta program DOES NOT  provide a richer more rewarding experience.  How is it more rewarding!?!?   Not only is it LESS rewarding, it is confusing, intrusive, aggravating, and more time consuming.  I have been an MCR member since 2006 and it is apparent my brand loyalty to Coke is worth nothing more than a "cut and paste" response.

Dear B. Szuminsky,  Thank you for a personal reply. Can you shed some light on how we are going to be notified about future holiday reward offers.  Are we going to know what special rewards are going to be offered ahead of time so we can make arrangements to able to log on to MCR and take advantage of the special offers?  That was one of the great things about the 12 Days of Christmas.  We knew ahead of time what was being offered and on which days so we could "budget" our points accordingly.

I'm surprised that no one from My Coke Rewards has considered the possibility that all the people who are angry about this could also post messages to twitter and instagram and facebook to counteract all the positive messages the beta people are sending.   Wouldn't it be simpler to make both sites equal and allow all the My Coke Rewards people to have a chance at the prizes?  After all - aren't we all valued customers?  The idea was to get me to buy Coke products, I think.  I bought a LOT of Coke products.  Suddenly that makes me a second-class MCR participant, because I didn't join beta soon enough to achieve Gold Status and be eligible for the same prizes I've looked forward to for several years.  Wouldn't it be great if MCR gave us a holiday gift by rescinding this silly elitist status for MCR beta members and let "regular" MCR members feel good about the company we're supposed to tweet about?  So many corporations have had to deal with viral negative posts about things like this, and it is never a good thing.  What a risk MCR is taking!  How brave of the head of promotions for MCR to think up such a great way to go down in history as the person responsible for the sudden glut of viral negative posts by MCR members.  Really guys - this is silly.  NO ONE changes the rules at the last minute when people are expecting to continue to see the same things without expecting a huge public outcry.  Re-think this.

Coke Rewards Beta is nothing more than free advertising.  This program is, well, just crap.  I am not giving free advertising. I don't tweet, have a cell phone and at my age I'm not acting like a fool for the world to see.  I will just start drinking Mountain Dew and Pepsi, they are not forcing people into free advertising for a few "rewards" to be dangled in my face.

Hi Lauri, we will be sorry to see you go. Please note that the Santa's Wishlist Challenges did not require members to mention any Coke brand or MCR, but simply asked members to help spread the holiday spirit by sharing with who makes you happy, your traditions and more. Certain Challenges, such as the Classic vs. Modern poll, are centered around a Coca-Cola brand, but if you do not wish to participate in these Challenges, it is not mandatory. Earning Status can also be done by non-social activities such as watching videos about your favorite brands, completing your profile and more.

At this time, all Holiday rewards were also added to the Rewards Catalog and do not require social actions to redeem them. Unfortunately most of the rewards sold out several weeks ago when they were available to members both through Santa's Wishlist and again through the Catalogs. We're sorry to hear you were unable to receive the gift cards you were hoping to cash in on this year.

This really is a joke.  It is more a way to get people to market Coke on social media at no cost to them.  I am through drinking Coke products

Well I too am disappointed.  I am the only one in my house that drinks Coke products, and I do so mainly to get the points.  I am too old to want to tweet and anything else to get Beta points or status and really don't need any more folks knowing my every move.  Thanks for nothing!!!!  Oh and I don't need one of your cut and paste responses.

Clearly, Coke is not listening.  I guarantee you that buying Pepsi products will help them listen.  They know that they have taken advantage of their loyal customers.  I have over 7000 points that I now can not use for the gift cards.

Coke gets a BIG lump of coal in their stocking this year for switching 12 days of Christmas over to Beta only. I too just as a lot of my fellow loyal coke drinkers save points all year long especially for this promotion. VERY DISAPPOINTING! Wish I could sell all points, that way all my time wasted would be somewhat worth while. PLEASE RECONSIDER CHANGING 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BACK TO NORMAL SO EVERYONE COULD ENJOY IT.

I find the whole beta site very frustrating.  More about getting people to post positive things on social media about Coke than it is rewarding loyal customers.

Hi David, please note that you do not have to mention Coke, Coke products or our rewards partners in any of the tweets in order to unlock wishes on Santa's Wishlist.

Again I chime in, although I feel forced to use beta, I am not happy about it. I have always enjoyed the normal MCR site, when I go to beta, I'm not a happy camper. Note: I would bet most of your users are not 20 years old. The young people of today love social media, and that's great for them. I would bet than the majority of your users are more of a mature age, and don't use social media that often, or at all!

The only reason I have twitter, was to sign up for something at one time, another force down my throat deal!

Why don't companies listen to their customers? I'll never know! Then they ask why are sales down?..hmmmm....listen to your customers! It's very easy.

I do appreciate the rewards, but please stop fixing what's not broke, I repeat.

My sister does MCR too, I told her that she would have to use beta to get any gift cards this year. She would not even hear of it, and she is much younger and uses social media.

My sister and use to have fun...previous years, logging on, being on the phone together to get the gift cards, sure it took some time, but we always had fun!

I spent hours upon hours trying to figure beta out. I finally did, although I don't even know how I did it. I was so upset about the wasted time it took me.

I even called customer service to walk me through it, trying to use twitter, and even the CS rep didn't know how either. She said she didn't use twitter either, and could not help.

Ok done venting for now, I'm sure that Coke won't listen to us, more time wasted, but feels good to vent. Lowers my blood pressure.

DO YOU REALLY THINK WE BELIEVE THIS CANNED REPLY....? (BELOW)

This is nothing more than fluff and bull.  Coke only wants everyone to provide them with free advertising.  This program is NOT engaging or rewarding.

I am wondering if Coke remembers the fiasco they created when they changed the Coke formula.  This reminds me of that event as it is REALLY frustrating their most loyal customers.
