I’m sad

Love this game but ...

I have really been enjoying this game. So much so that I invested in 5 - 50% appliances. BUT ... I have just ran across the straw that broke the camels back! I don't mind investing gems to get items I want but am furious to be forced to spend them to keep skipping quests that require me to build an item that I DO NOT WANT! I'm not talking about the Grandma quests as those are optional. I'm talking about the standard quest that if I don't spend gems (since I have NO luck getting enough items back from neighbors) to be able to continue to play. I tried for over a week to get enough items back to build one of these required builds before finishing it up with gems. I should NOT have to do that! What's the alternative? Sit around with no goals for a month until I can get the parts? I don't think so. At one point both of my available goals required a build. Yeah, that was a lot of fun and inspired me to invest even more money into the game.

I am now stuck on a goal to build not one but TWO counters. Not going to happen. I'm pretty sure my other quest will be requiring a build soon also. It's a shame really, wish I had known this before I invested in specialty appliances. My fault, I should have played the game longer to see how things would pan out. :( As soon as I run out of goals not build related I will be removing the app. I refuse to invest in this game any more than I already have knowing now that this is never going to end.

  • First, I feel your pain. The level-based tasks which must be completed in order to unlock new tasks from that particular quest giver are irritating when they require building.

I have mistakenly built the wrong appliance on one of those. It was, er, slightly frustrating after having taken a week to build this appliance (which, meanwhile, put my table building thus my future decorating plans on hold while this was going on) then to find out that it wasn't what was needed for the task. Since it was my bad and I was short on patience, I just advanced the task with gems at that point. But it was a lesson learned.

I'm so over the building tasks that I gleefully skip every timed task which requires me to build something, as I typically don't want the reward anyway (like, one chair--really, is this a joke?) so the experience boost isn't worth the hassle.

Anyhow, I am sorry that you are frustrated with the game. Instead of quitting, have you considered adding new neighbors from this forum to help you past these types of tasks? I've amassed a good group from here who, for the most part, are very responsive.

Another option would be to just leave that task alone. As far as I know, only the expansion task lines require building. (In other words, there is a separate task line for each game that requires you to expand your shop, visit community members, purchase "x" decoration, build "y" item, and so forth.) Quite a few of us have chosen not to fully expand for one reason or another, so we have left those tasks at a certain point, though we continue with the "cook x number of y" tasks.

While I'm not sure whether either suggestion will work for you, I wish you well and hope that you can either recapture the fun in these games or find fun elsewhere. :)

  • I have never spent any real money on Bakery and Restaurant Towns, and I'm at Levels 43/44, with 5 to 6 millions coins. My "towns" are fully expanded (both single-storey), I've got all the international chefs, and I have leftover gems still. I've missed only two timed quests really early on in Bakery Town when I didn't yet have enough responsive friends and/or appliances to work quickly enough, but since then I've fulfilled every single one, regardless of how daft the rewards are or how ugly the built furniture is.

My point is: It can be done. As MissCeara suggested, add more friends. Keep going to Community, visit people, and add them. Perhaps add those who are Levels 10+ or 20+, because you could assume that if they had patience to get that far, they are probably fairly active.

Mentally take note of which friends regularly help you out (say, by hastening your cooking). Return the favour always, and those would be the people you turn to first when you desperately need items for building or to finish up cooking in a pinch.

When you don't have any quests to fulfil, ask friends for items anyway, especially items that you're low on. That takes some of the stress off begging for items when the quests come. And keep cooking so that your counters are stocked and customers don't leave broken-hearted as that would affect your popularity score.

  • Hello MelodieT,

I'm very sorry to hear you're not enjoying the build quests. Tedium is the last thing we wanted to introduce by adding new quests! Your feedback is both noted and appreciated.
