Navfree Australia V1.8.0 build 5356
There are missing segments of roads which are fine in OSM, and have been since I first looked in March 2011. Much the same segments [but not all] were missing in V 1.6.8.
Is there a glitch in the way the data is compiled to Navfree?

Hi, can you point us to a missing segment, we will double check if it is a bug or data. We are preparing release with June maps so hopefully they will be present there

if the errors are corrected in osm and show they have been then the new update will show the map correct . have you checked osm ? if they have not been mapped they will not show . It may be a bug if they are showing correct on osm then this will be corrected on next update which is up to june maps .

The whole reason for this query is that OSM has looked correct all along, but Navfree has not. This has been the case for the last 2 updates.

I am trying to help you guys make a success of this!

It looks to me most likely that there is an issue/bug in the way OSM data is complied to Navfree.

Thanks Mark for your feedback it is very much appreciated . I will get the dev team to look into this thread before we compile completely and send to Apple .

Im thinking it sounds like a bug . If osm are showing correct our map updates should show the same like you say . Im on it : )

cheers mark

Thanks Tim,

I note Tidal in the USA is commenting on something which sounds similar.

I was going to create a problem report on this but someone else already has. I've traced the bug to a problem with the way Navfree obtains the OSM data and processes it. On certain roads mapped in Australia, administrative boundary data contained in relations (OSM jargon for data properties which can be placed on top of normal data, such as bus routes and in this case, administrative boundaries) which is then placed on the same line (way in OSM jargon) as the "highway=" data which causes the roads to not appear in Navfree for whatever reason. I've been personally separating the data so the highway data and relation data so that they are on their own separate lines (ways in OSM jargon). This is currently the only way to make those road appear again. I've attached a sample of the situation:

And here is the link to the properties of the underlying OSM data for that area, showing the road with the relation attached at the bottom of this page:

Hope this helps you guys out to get rid of this bug and make more Aussies happy!

The example in the following link involves a "landuse=recreation_ground" area defined in shared relations with roads on almost all sides. None of the roads involved show in Navfree.

There are a few sections of a main highway between Melbourne and Adelaide [Dukes Highway] which have the same issue.
Interestingly, potlatch2 seems a little confused by those sections and gives them a different colour.
Refer following links.

On closer inspection, maybe not a different colour.... just deceiving with a blue stripe down the middle of the highway.

I am happy to help out with reporting bugs in the app as I believe this is a great product which has a lot of potential. If any of the developers or support team need testers or any help from a dedicated user, i'm happy to help.

A point of interest

Potlatch2 [in edit mode] does shows roads differently wherever this situation occurs IE Admin Boundary and highway on the same "way"

but shows OK in OSM render / view mode

Can you advise if this has been resolved within Navfree? .... or does the data need to be modified in OSM to separate Admin Boundary data from Highway data?
