Nero 9 to 2014 deinstallation problems - remnants blowing up the Windows Registry ( Win 10 )

Was kann man da tun ?

--

I have upgradet to Windows 10 and Nero 15. If I look at the Windows registry database I find a plethora of old (I think useless) entries - down to Nero 9. In addition Nero 2014 deinstallation is not complete although the message says it is deinstalled, But it is still in the Apps&Features list. So Nero 2014 Content Pack.

And the Nero 2015 Content Pack installtion fails due to the fact, that the prerequisites do not install.

What is to do?

  • Try to download RegClean.exe by Microsoft. and let it run.

  • Hello Joachim,

responing in English. I asume you understand German, but I am not 100% sure.

The very old RegClean Program obviously has removed a very large amount of old Registry entries, but it did not solve the deinstallation problem.

I have manually removed a l l Nero entries from the registry and deleted the Nero folder with all Nero programs from the "Program X86" installation folder.
But the entries of Nero 2014 still exist in the Windows 10 "Apps and Features" list.

  • To uninstall v9, the Nero General Clean Tool is used. It is available at nero.com, support, other versions, Nero 9, Support Tools.

v14 is removed via the Control Panel. It is nearly impossible to remove all registry entries related to Nero or most other software from the registry except by doing a complete reinstallation of Windows which replaces the registry. Did you delete the Nero 15 folder in this key and reboot-

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nero

If you deleted the Nero folder in Program Files (x86) and you have a 64 bit system, Nero 2015 won't run. You also need to leave the Nero 11 folder in that path since versions 11 through 2015 share that folder.

  • Sorry,

I have already removed all registry entries dealing with Nero
and then installed Nero 2015 (NERO 16 - whyever there is a difference between the version number and the name).
As far as I recognize it runs fine - at least Nero Burning ROM.
What I cannot select on the NERO Selection Panel is:
NERO Media Home, NERO Media Browser, NERO Blue Ray Player and NERO Kreativ_Vorlagen,

And the registry entries after this installation are the following:

Then I tried to install the Nero Control Center (My Product)
the installation seemed to work, but there is no Control Center.
WHenevver I click onto the My Product button I am told, that I should install the Control Center ( but I have already done that ).

What I do not understand, why Nero always installs the "prerequisite"
Reboot Validator (it takes a long long time - why is this not kept after the first installation :-(( - strange ! )

And the Windows 10 Settings "Apps & Features" still present the entries:
NERO 2015, Nero 2014, Nero 2014 Content Pack,
Nero Cover designer, Nero Info, and 4 Nero Prerequisite Installer (1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0) - strange again :-((

I just expected to see Nero 2015 - and probably Prerequisite Installer 4.0.

According to my experiance, there is still a lot to do to smooth out the NERO Installation procedure. I hope this happens before Nero 2016 is released.

Well, Nero Express and the Content pack are also not installed. The blu-ray player is not installed because you don't have Nero MediaHome installed. Ditto for the Media Browser.

I have no idea what you have removed from the registry. There are thousands of Nero entries which don't have the word "Nero" associated with them. In addition, the names of the various applications appear with variations in the registry. For instance, Burning Rom might appear as Burning Rom or BurningRom or burning rom or burningrom. This type of behavior is not limited to Nero.

Please send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com. Since they don't work weekends, you probably won't get a reply until around the middle of next week.

  • Hello Wither,

sorry that I create problems, but my problems probably prevent other users from having the same troubles.

I will write a note to techsupport@nero.com. There is no hurry to get an answer, because BurningROM works fine and I currently have no need to exploit the other functions.

I have ordered NERO 2016 Platinum (which hopefully comes up soon) and which hopefully allows a clean installation under Windows 10 by throwing out all redundant entries from the Windows registry.

Anyway: many thanks for your help. I appreciate this very much :-))

    Best regards

I don't see where you're creating any problems. You're just reporting what you find as a result of trying to install.

I don't think that installing v2016 is going to remove all those entries or even modify most of them. However, it may very well install.

I wonder if you would try something? Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features (I think it's called something else in Win 10).

Find Nero 2015. Click on it and then select Change. If not checked already, select Modify. Then select Installation Settings.

If Nero Express and Nero MediaHome are present, click on each one and select "this feature will not be available". Then Apply and Install.

When the installation is complete, reboot. Then go back the same way and select "this feature and all sub-features....................". Apply and install. Reboot.

Then check the Nero Welcome window to see if they show as installed.

  • I have followed your recommendation, the final result was, that after the second installation I got Nero Express and Nero Media Home.

But then I selected "Remove" in the Installation Selection and I removed first Nero 2015 completely and after that also Nero 2014 and Nero 2014 Content pack - and that was successful.

Next step was to install Nero 2015 - the installation was OK :-))
Following step: atempt to install Nero 2015 Content Pack - installation failed, VC Redist 2012(x86) installation fails.

    Finaly I installed sucessfully the
    nerocoverdesigner-ESD_small-20130114133258959-12.0.01100.nsx.exe

And that is what I finally got.

In the Windows 10 Apps & Features list now NERO 2015, NERO CoverDesigner, NERO Info, NERO Prerequisite Installer 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 shows up.

    My final impression:
Nero installation procedures are slow, awkward and not Windows 10 compliant because they use proprietary features and do not that what a normal Windows user expects.
I do not understand why the prerequisites have to be installed newly all the time, and the installation of this prereqs is very slow.
Deinstallation via the Windows Apps&Features list is offered, but does not work.
If called, it says, that the deinstallation was sucessfull in a Nero Advertising screen, that offers Upgrades, but the App entries in the Windows Apps&Features list do not disappear.
Nero Content Pack 2015 (although offered as additional component) cannot be installed under Windows 10.

What also is not state of the art: Nero Info cannot be reduced to a Window. It always covers the hole screen and can only be minimized to the task bar.

    Looks like my suggestion worked.

In regards to the redistributable, please go here-

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/downlo...

Download and install it manually. Then install the Content pack.

In regards to the prerequisites, #1-3 were included in v2015 early on. #4 came a little later. Some, but not all of them were included in earlier versions of Nero. I don't remember the history (not something that a person would put in his/her memory bank).

There have been other people (including myself) who haven't figured out how to get rid of the display of older versions which have been uninstalled from Control Panel. In those cases, an e-mail to tech support is in order. I could probably figure out which registry entries need to be deleted but don't have the time.

In regards to Nero Info, I would just delete it. That gets rid of the nagging pop-ups.

  • Hello Wither,

many thanks again, yes, your suggestion worked well,
and after the manual installation of the MS VS C++ Redist. prereq (64 bit) also the ContentPack installation worked fine.

The final remaining problem is the installation of the ControlCenter.

If I click onto the lower left button ("Ihr Produkt / your product") the following subwindow appears:

This triggers a completely new installation, but no ControlCenter comes up.
But this is a minor problem and I dont care if the ControlCenter is there or not.

Again many many thanks for your professionel support. :-))

Now I am waiting for the new NERO 2016 (64 Bit Windows 10, Version 17.xxxxx ?), which I think was promised for September 2015.

Massage my ego and give me a "good answer" for at least part of this. :D (you don't have to if you don't want to).

You need the ControlCenter to get the updates, which are important. Do you have this path-

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero ControlCenter

If so and the ncc.exe file is there, right click on it and select "run as administrator". Does that work?

If it doesn't, please send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com. Let us know the resolution. There have been a few people who reported that particular problem and it wasn't necessarily for Win 10 only.

  • Hello Wither,

unfortunately I do not have the mentioned path

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero ControlCenter "
    respectively (in the German environment)
    "C:\Programme (x86)\Nero\Nero ControlCenter "
and the "ncc.exe" is also missing.

So obviously I cannot install the ControlCenter.

For your info: I unfortunately did not know what the "Asterisk - good answer" is good for. But now I know. So I gave all good answers I could click on..

The note to techsupport@nero.com I just submitted.

Again many thanks for your professional support.

  • Hello Wither,
    Nero technical support answered today.

    The answer was this procedure:

    --------------------------- nero answer --------------------------------
Nero has performed extensive tests for Nero 2015 versions after upgrading the operating system to Windows 10 – without experiencing any problems.
However, Windows 10 is not officially supported by Nero 2015 versions. All future Nero 2016 versions will be optimized for Windows 10 and will offer full support for the new operating system. The release of the new Nero 2016 is scheduled for autumn 2015.

We cannot guarantee that the following steps will solve the problem on Windows 10, but you can try them to repair the ControlCenter:

Press the key Windows + key R on your keyboard to open the window "Run".
Within the Run window, enter the following command to open the Windows Registry:

    Regedit

Delete the following key from the registry.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\35588CBA077879B44BE3A50946A7B536}

Close the sreen and download the Nero component from following link:

    http://install10.nero.com/update10/%7...

Extract the package with a tool like Winzip/7zip and run the installation with the extracted nero.controlcenter.msi.

Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

  • Outstanding. Tech support to the rescue.

I'm surprised that the installer installed the Product ID for the Nero ControlCenter in the registry but didn't install the corresponding files on the C: drive.

    Enjoy!
