Nero findet DVD Brenner nicht, bietet nur "Image Recorder" an

Dear support engineer,

seems that I have trapped into a long-lasting Nero problem, which over all the years
has not been properly solved.

So I am a new guy of your „My DVD burner is not detected“ community. I have read many and many problem reports about that, which reach back for 5 and more years – and the problem still exists.

Please have a look at the attached screen shot:
- Nero Info Tool states, that my „HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LS30“ is capable of writing DVDs
- ImgBurn program finds it as DVD-RW device and is able to burn DVDs without any problem.
- Nero 2019 Burning ROM however only offers „Image Recorder“ and can not burn DVDs

It was no issue to find dozens of similar complains - but unfortunately I could not find a clear answer or solution.

I have read all the helpless hints „Try this – try that – could it be your cables are wrong – re-install Nero – update and re-install device drivers –
change SATA ports – try changing registry entries – bla, bla, bla“.

Yes – ImgBurn burns DVDs without any problem.
No – Nero 2019 cannot burn any DVD.
No – this is not a problem of DVD firmware or OS driver or SATA-port number (I have checked all this and ImgBurn does not have any problem...).

It's obviously a problem of Nero Burning Rom (and Nero Video).

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Jörg Tröger

P.S.: Yes, I can use the image recorder and then use ImgBurn to burn the DVDs. I have done this a couple of times for now. I would however appreciate, if „Nero Burn“ would do something, what it’s name is about - especially since I paid for Nero 2019 but got ImgBurn for free...

    After waiting for some response I give up on relying on the Nero employees present on this forum and started to explore the problem more seriously by myself.

    It turned out, that Windows Defender blocked the access of "nero.exe" to a protected file folder - a function of Windows defenders "Ransomware protection" -> "Controlled Folder Access".

    I could not explore, which protected folder nero.exe wants to manipulate, but after adding "nero.exe" (with full file path "Nero 2019"\"Nero Burning ROM"\neor.exe) to the White list of allowed applications my DVD burner pops up in the recorder list with correct Burning rights.

    Maybe Nero can re-consider the folders they manipulate, as many users may have activated this feature of Windows Defender.

  • Das Problem ist gelöst!

    Es stellte sich heraus, dass der Window Defender mit seinem Ransomware-Schutz
    nero.exe nicht gestattete in einen geschützten Dateiordner zu schreiben - das nahm ihm nero.exe so übel, dass er meinen DVD-Brenner nicht mehr erkannte...

    Klingt blöd? Duchaus!

    Was hilft:
    - "Windows Defender Security Center" öffnen
    -> "Viren & Bedrohungssschutz"
    -> "Ransomware-Schutz"
    -> "App durch überwachten Ordnerzugriff zulassen"
    -> "Zulässige App hinzufügen" anklicken
    -> \Nero 2019\Nero Burning ROM\nero.exe anklicken und "Öffnen"
    (dasselbe wiederholen für NeroVision.exe und all die anderen schönen Einzeltools).

    Fertig,.
