Blurry Nero DVDs

So this is not my first rodeo... I have used software like Nero and Windows Movie Maker. I usually create my Powerpoint Slide Show, export to .mp4 or similar (.wmv)

For some reason this year... My presentation and exported videos from Powerpoint .Mp4 look extra clear. BUT, as soon as I load it into any dvd burner... it automatically looks extremely blurry. I have tried Nero, Roxio, DVD maker... I am only using pictures from my Samsung Note 9... resolution is at least 4034x3024 and at least 1mb in size. They are in Jpeg format and I have even tried converting to .png for better quality.

My issue here is that everything looks crystal clear in my powerpoint presentation and .mp4 exported file on playback... but burning to dvd blurs pictures to almost unseeable quality. I am using Windows 10 64bit. I have already tried creating higher resolution in powerpoint, choosing not to compress images. Am I doing something wrong or is there a way to just make a SD dvd playable for tv. Its a short picture slideshow of about 8mins and can not figure this out. I am using I believe Microsoft Powerpoint Ver.2016 and Nero Version: 22.0.1013. I also see the video pixels go down to about 700x500 or so in Nerol... but nothing I do seems to work. I tried exporting my presentation in Ulta HD quality and SD 480 in powerpoint and neither work.

Nero settings are pretty basic, I tried 1 pass encoding and 2 and I get same video quality not even ok. The pictures look very distorted and motion is a little choppy and text is readable but seems somewhat pixelated.

Please Help??

  • Hi Brenda-

If you're burning a DVD-Video, the maximum resolution is 720x but your pictures shouldn't be "almost unseeable quality." You could get 1920x by burning an either a Blu-ray disc or an AVCHD-DVD but both requires a blu-ray player to play it.

Would you mind uploading one of your original .mp4 videos to a cloud service, such One Drive, Dropbox, etc., sharing it and posting a link to it here?

  • I would do that... except I do not know how. The video I exported from powerpoint is short about 8mins long... about 30 slides. I unchecked the compress images. I tried creating slideshow in 4:3 and 16:9... exported video in 720p, 1080p, and High Def like 4k or so... the video exports in .mp4 and looks clear when I play on computer.

But as soon as I import into Nero the preview looks blurry. It runs good, but picture and text wise is very blurry, like a movie I would buy at a parking lot recorded on someones old cellphone.

I have tried burning a couple just to make sure it was not the preview. I tried 1 pass encoding and 2. I do not know what else to do. The video looks crystal clear as a powerpoint presentation and .mp4.

UPDATE: I have since tried using wondershare and HD video converter to compress file to .vob or .mpg at a low resolution 480 or 720p... but same issue, looks semi clear on computer AND as soon as I import to Nero the preview looks very blurry.

I also tried saving my powerpoint presentation as jpg and treid creating a slide show in Nero but I edit everything nicely and then when it moves over to burn it blurs the pictures.

  • Create a free account at dropbox.com (that's limited to 5 GB). Click on Files. Click on Upload Files. Upload one of the original .mp4 files. After that, click on Share, for that file. In the bottom right corner of the next screen, click on "get link." Then click on "copy link." Paste the link here. You can do a similar thing in One Drive, WeTransfer, etc.

If you wanted to upload photos, it would easiest to ZIP them first and upload the .zip file.

  • Maybe for liability issues I can not upload video. Here are 2 screenshots of end product on playback of DVD. The overall video is okay, but on zoom in the faces look distorted, fuzzy images.

The video itself in Powerpoint and the exported .mp4 which is about 39 slides long and 8mins, plays clear. It only gets blurry when I import to Nero, Roxio, Wondershare, every program I have used so far.

I have also tried compressing the video from .mp4 to mpg at 480 or 720p but it will still play not great quality but when I import to burning software it automatically goes blurry again. I also tried exporting powerpooint presentation 480 & 720 but I get the same problem.

Three pictures to show Quality of playback on computer vs. quality of DVD playback. Images are unrecognizable.

    • First, thank you for your help. Secondly, I saw the 4k video but should i try to burn that on nero just to see if it works or what do I do with your video. Your 4k video looks good and clear, but my issue is only on import to burn when I use Nero or any other burning software. I tried exporting powerpoint video using ultra HD, 1080, 720, and even 480 but I have the same issue, the lower resolution seems more blurry but they look fine when I just play it on my computer.
    • Brenda,
See my last post at the bottom of the thread. It's probably best to continue there!

  • The lower the resolution you use, the worse they're going to get. If you burn a DVD-Video, the max resolution is 720x.

You mentioned burning to a SD card. When you open Nero Video, select AVCHD, SD card. Burn your project to a SD card. The resolution should be at least 1920x. Does that work?

    Also, please go here-

    http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Dow...

and download/install MediaInfo. Open your mp4 in it and select View Tree. Provide a screenshot which shows the video and audio characteristics.

  • Hello, No luck yet. I have tried all types of compressions. Using Hd Converter or uniconverter. Attemping to convert my high resolution .mp4 to a lower resolution mpg at 480 or 720.

I am trying to burn this powerpoint video that I saved and exported in to an .mp4 video. the video looks clear and crisp on the computer but as soon as I import it into Nero or any other dvd burning software it looks blurry. Even the compressed videos I have converted. This video is a total of 8mins long. I would like to burn this onto a Standard DVD Video that can be watched on a standalone dvd player.

I have read occassion where the pictures used were low resolution and when stretching or expanding will lose resolution but the pictures i am using have 4032x3024 pixels.

Could it be the pictures are too much for dvd video resolution and how can I compress everything to just play right. I have never had this issue before and I have made these videos before. I even tried to skip the whole powerpoint part and use Nero Slideshow maker and Windows movie maker but no luck. I get the same issue where the pictures look blurry.

Any Ideas what could be causing the pictures to look blurry or distorted? Any ideas what format should pictures be to not have this problem?

  • Simply put, you're reducing the resolution from a high one to a low one. That may or may not cause blurriness, depending on what the lower resolution is.

Did you try the AVCHD, SD Card option I mentioned? That will give you the 1920x resolution which is the highest that most video software in the price range of Nero will get you.

Also, you didn't post what I asked in regards to MediaInfo.

  • Thanks. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

Clear something up for me. Are you saying the video gets blurry simply by importing into Nero Video or it only gets blurry when you zoom them? They're going to get more blurry, the higher the zoom level.

If you import the original photos into Nero Video, do they look blurry?

You haven't said if you tried the SD card option yet.

  • Hello, I do not have an SD Card to burn onto. I meant like SD-Standard Dvd as opposed to Blu-ray or anything else.

The video only gets blurry when I import onto Nero. But I have tried other burners as well and the same thing happens. Wondershare, windows movie maker, etc.

I tried saving the powerpoint into jpegs, opening Nero and creating a slideshow... I imported those jpeg pictures and looks clear but then when I finished slideshow and go into the burning part of it... it will switch and get blurry.

  • I opened your test video by importing it into DVD, DVD-Video and Blu-ray disc. Despite the differences in resolution, they pretty much look the same-

My monitor is 1920x. Note that you need to have a system which meets a very specific set of conditions to be able to display 4k in the 4k resolution.

I'm going to look at the subsequent files.

  • I did the same thing with the yellow-CDP file-

Again not much difference. In all cases the files appear to be more blurry than the original.

I then exported the yellow CDP file from blu-ray to AVC. I'll post a link to it here but it looks as good as the original.-

  • I burned a DVD-Video of the yellow-CDP file and it looks pretty close to the original.

Long story short, it appears that what you see while working on the file in Nero isn't what you get when you burn it, in regards to bluriness.

    • Wither 1,

I've made several posts with your original VOB alongside your sharpened VOB rendered in a Full HD frame. Have you looked at any of them or read any of the postings about them?
    • Yes. I only mentioned using the sharpening since Brenda keeps saying the original is blurry on her TV when burned as a DVD-Video.

  • hmm... that is weird because the first pictures I posted is how it looks when burned. I burned about 15dvds just to be sure and it does look blurry/distorted.

This is how the original video looks in preview mode when I import the video... and also how it looks on the finished product. if you zoom in the faces are very distorted...they almost look like demons...lol

Could it be in how I burn them?

... When I first imported the video to Nero, I thought it looked blurry but it would lokk better on DVD but it didn't. I tried on two different tvs/dvd players. One playstation and a standalone dvd player but they look very blurry. could it just be my eyes?
    • Brenda,

I've tried several variations. The last was to use your four photos in both PowerPoint and Nero Video. displayed all four on one slide in PP and then exported that as a 4K video. I imported that onto Nero Video and then followed it by your original photos scaled to fit all four in one frame. They didn't come out exactly the same because PP cropped and scaled them to fill the frame. In any case, the results weren't that different and weren't as bad as you've shown.

I created a DVD structure and then streamed the resulting VOB file to my TV using Nero MediaHome The TV rescaled it to fill the 52" (I think) screen and that didn't help at all!

So, you mentioned above that you were wasting a lot of DVD discs. Have you tried writing to your hard drive instead and then examining the VOB on your computer? Put another way, how large is the TV?

  • Hmm, these look pretty clear. but that is what I thought when I just burned it hoping it wouldn't look slightly blurry. One tv is 65-70" and another is 43."

Could it be that I used too many pictures in one slide... making them really small using a really high resolution... but this is a screen shot of one screen playing the burned DVD on Computer in NeroMediaHome... Is it just me... that looks a little blury and a little bright?

    • Yes.. this was supposed to be a quick 8min video and turned into a nightmare. I might just have to go the route of emailing posting on youtube from now on. Do you know if there is a difference in burning software... as technology advances, what programs are best?
    • Brenda,

The DVD specification is very old and won't be changed. You could make an AVCHD DVD but those require a Blu-ray player to watch (or maybe X-Box?).

  • No.

I added the sharpen50% to the master effect in Advanced editing, grabbed the end of it and moved it to the right so that is the same duration of the video-

You can also set the duration of the effect in it's properties.

Note that you can selectively place the effect any where you wish in the project if you don't need to sharpen the whole thing.

In Express editing, just apply the effect to the first picture. Then hover your mouse over the picture and click on the little "fx" button. You can then elect to apply the effect to each picture-

If you have a video in express editing and apply the effect, it's applied to the whole thing.

    Brenda,

I imported your video into Nero Video and exported it as a Full HD AVC video. I uploaded that to YouTube. There are a number of resolutions available in the settings.2
