Can you copy all of a clip's effects onto another one on the same timeline?

I have a clip with 6 customized effects. 2 Questions:

1. How do I copy all those into another clip on the same timeline (Advance Editing)?

2. Can I save those settings somewhere?

  • To my knowledge, you can't do a copy/paste operation on the effects. If you put an effect on the Master Effects line, you can apply it to the whole project by changing it's duration.

If it makes it any easier for you, you can add effects to your favorites so you don't have to search for them every time you want to use them.

  • testteddy:
I commonly add a text effect, customize the properties, e.g. shadow opacity, and then copy and paste the result as many times as necessary before adjusting the exact text. Since I don't have my computer, I am going to take a guess:
    1. After setting up the first group, select the group by holding down the SHIFT key and clicking each component.
    2. Copy the group to the clipboard using CTRL-C.
    3. Move the red cursor beyond the last timeline entry.
    4. Insert the required number of copies by repeatedly typing CTRL-V (moving the cursor to the end each time).
    5. Reposition the effects over the appropriate clips.
Again, I don't recall trying this on a group of effects, but I suspect it will work. The steps are from memory, so perhaps an experienced user with a working system could comment.

  • I had tried to copy and paste in v14, Make Advanced Movie, before replying above. I couldnt select two effects at once on the Timeline and, even using one, it still copies the entire video with the effects and I couldn't find a way to separate them. If I put the effects in the Master Effects, I can select more than one but the copy operation still copies the entire video with the effects.

However, I didn't use the keyboard strokes. I tried it again today, using the keyboard strokes, and it still doesn't work.

When are you going to get your system back? Sounds like they should be giving you a new one.
