I’m frustrated

How can I import a file longer than 120 minutes into wave editor?

I am trying to splice a 9 hour soundtrack into 2 hours blocks and remove some dead space. When I open it in Sound trax or Wave Editor, only the first 120 minutes opens. How can I access the remainder of the soundtrack?

I am using Nero 12 Platinum on Windows 8.

  • Instead of using Open, try Edit, Insert File.

You could also open Make Advanced Movie or Make Movie or Slide Show in Nero Video/Vision, depending on which version you have and export portions of the audio to file. If you have v12 or v14, you could use Recode to do the same thing.

I don't have time to get into the details right now.

  • Thank you for your reply.

Edit - Insert File cut it off after 2 hours as well - so that didn't work.

I will try Nero Video. Thanks.

  • In Nero Video, add your audio to the Timeline. Right click in the grey area around the time scale. Select Enable Workspace. Adjust the markers to fit less than two hours of audio. Then select Export, Export Audio to File. Export the file. Undo, and do the same thing for the rest of the audio. All the resulting files can be edited in WaveEditor and saved to file. It would be interesting to see what happens if you try to insert all the edited files back into WaveEditor at once.

This is just a workaround. I recommend that you send an e-mail to tech support. This issue has come up before, in regards to recording audio in WaveEditor. I don't remember it coming up in regards to your problem.

  • BRB CE1316:
I don't see where you have mentioned the format of your input file. But, I have demonstrated a few problems using .WAV files.

Since I don't have any 9 hour audio files, I set about the task of making one. First, I used WaveEditor to make a 2h12m29s .wav file (1.3 GB).

Then, I imported that file into WaveEditor four times to create an 8h49m56s audio track. I exported this track to a .WAV file. When it was finished, the .WAV file was 6h45m47s long (5.22 GB).

Here is a screenshot of the bizarreness that occurred while creating this file:

I tried the same thing with Nero 2014 Video and got a 2h04m08s long .WAV (5.22 GB).

I tried the same thing with SoundTrax and got a 1h06m50s long .WAV (5.22 GB). In this case, SoundTrax crashed. Here's the Windows Application Event log entry:

I tried importing the above files:

The "8h49m56s" WaveEditor output file imported as 6h45m47s in WaveEditor.
The "8h49m56s" NV2014 output file imported as 2h04m08s in WaveEditor.

Attempting to import the "8h49m56s" WaveEditor output file into NV2014 produced:

Well, it's been fun! Maybe one of the 24 Nero Employees "participating" in this forum will be able to suggest something.

  • Omega Tester - thank you for your reply.

My original file is an mp3.

I finally got my piece edited. I had to import it into Windows Live Movie Maker and make a video with it (Nero Video was acting up at the time). Then use Nero Recode to turn it back into an audio file. Very time consuming, but otherwise it worked.

  • BRB CE1316:

Using your suggestion, I was able to make an 8h49m56s .mp3 file. The file played as an 8h49m56s audio in Nero MediaHome and VLC Player. MediaInfo indicates it is an 8h49m56s audio file.

It imports into Nero 2014 Video correctly:

It imports correctly into Nero 2014 Recode:

It imports into Nero SoundTrax as an ~2h37m audio file:

It imports into Nero WaveEditor as an ~2h37m audio file:

That's it for me! I'm not sure exactly how many bugs have been identified during today's exercise, but I'd rate the yield as "high."

  • I think one of the Nero employees said that the maximum size of an audio file in WE was like 100 Mb. I may be way off base.

In any event, this was a problem with recording in WE in previous versions. I recommend that he submit an e-mail to tech support. Please let us know what they have to say.

  • Wither 1:

It would seem that you are "way off base" suggesting that WE has a 100 MB file size limit. Please read my previous posts to see just how far off.

Although BRB CE1316 can send email to techsupport@nero.com, I'm not sure that would add anything to the situation. Everything Nero needs to know is defined in this topic. This topic is available to at least 24 Nero employees. Why on earth would a customer have to do what a responsible employee is paid to do? Moreover, why can't Nero keep you and the rest of us informed about their investigations? Again, they are being paid!

Have you taken the time to estimate exactly how many WaveEditor, SoundTrax, and Nero Video bugs have been illuminated in the above posts?

  • You're right. I didn't go back far enough in the thread. So I was off base.

You're not going to get Nero employees to analyze this kind of problem in the forum. I don't think that's the intent of "nero employees are here to help". Since you can import a large file but he can't, it smells like a system problem. They need to see the nerosupport.cab file.

I'll leave it at that since I'm not going to get embroiled in the constant bitching about why the Nero employees aren't doing here more.

While you say, 'You're not going to get Nero employees to analyze this kind of problem in the forum. I don't think that's the intent of "nero employees are here to help". ', you don't say what it is that you think they are doing here.

And, you say, "Since you can import a large file but he can't, it smells like a system problem. They need to see the nerosupport.cab file." Once again, if you take the time to actually read what is written above, you would see that I have demonstrated pretty much the identical difficulties on my system that were the subject of the original post. So, no nerosupport.cab files are necessary. No exact steps need be submitted. Everything is right here.

In fact, I have no doubt that you could duplicate the results yourself. It just takes time, effort, and willingness.
