I'm looking to add Video and Images to a DVD like extras you would get for a movie

I hope someone out there cleverer than me can help as I've been struggling with this one for a little while!

I'm trying to create a DVD that can be played in a DVD player that will have a menu and be able to play video files as well as show images, kind of like an extras disc from a movie. Is there a way that this can be done using Nero 9?

Thanks

Derek

  • Start out in Make Movie.

    Import your videos and pictures.

Add effects, transitions, etc. as desired.

When you leave the editing screen, select to make a DVD-Video.

It will open in the Contents screen where you can add chapter markers.

The next screen will be the menu screen where you can create a titles and chapters menu.

Test it in the next screen.

    burn

    Does that help?

  • Thanks Wither 1,

It's not quite what I'm looking for as I would want the 2 video files that I have to be separate entities to the images. This has given me an idea though, maybe just turn the images into a slide show and add that to the menu as a separate file. I had originally wanted to be able to select the images individually, could you could do that with chapters but still have them separate to the other 2 video files?

  • I assume you're talking about separation on the menus. If you have chosen a Titles and Chapters menu, the photos should be in the Chapters menu and the videos on the Titles Menu. Perhaps that's not happening. Please clarify.

Although it's not necessary, you could certainly create a slide show separately. It just adds some time to the whole process because you would have to either export to file. You could also burn to your hard drive.

  • Hi, sorry for the slow reply.

Yes, when I do it like this there is just 1 option on the title menu, both video files and the several pictures are turned into 1 file. Then on the chapters menu everything is shown individually.

  • I've worked out what to do now.

Only add the images to the Make Movie, then when you go to create the DVD add the video files then. Then I can keep everything separate.

Thanks for your help Wither 1

  • I don't follow your process exactly but you should be able to add everything in Make Movie. I mean, that's what it's designed to do. It's where you add effects, transitions, etc. and do edits to the whole project, not just part of it.

After you leave the editing screen and elect to make a DVD-Video, you will be in the Content screen. Click on the clapboard under the preview window. Select "add chapter for each video".

After you have made all the customizations you want to make, click on Advanced Editing. Right click on the button in the Main Menu and select Duplicate. Move the duplicate button to where you want it. Then click on the 1. Title 1 button and select Link to and select Title 1, Chapter 1. Repeat this for the 2. Title 2 button except Link to Title 1 Chapter 2. You will then have separate buttons on the Main Menu for the videos.

  • Would this not mean that the 1st video would flow in to the 2nd when it had finished though? Then straight in to the photos when the second video has finished? I would want the DVD to stop after what ever the viewer had selected finished.

  • I had two other thoughts after I replied but waited for you to respond.

First, you wouldn't need to use the "add chapter for each video". You could add chapter markers manually. This is just a clarification.

Second, I was also thinking about what things you mentioned. If you want it to go back to the menu after each video, you would open Disk/Project on the right hand side of the menu editing customize screen . Under End Action, you would select "jump to menu". This is tricky because I don't know if that would cause the same action after each photo was played. (I didn't test it). I don't think that would be what you wanted. In that case, you would create your slide show separately and export it to file. Then import that file when you import your video files for the final project.

  • Thanks again for getting back, it's very much appreciated. After my last reply I thought I should test it out for myself as I thought if it did work it would save a lot of hassle!

I set it up how you suggested and I did come across the option to jump back to the menu but alas, that doesn't work for the individual chapters. So it looks like I will have to add the images separately, but that's no big deal and a lot better than what I had originally come up with!

    Thanks again

  • Well, there's something funky going on. I created the same project and the jump to menu action didn't work, even after I burned it. I don't have a lot of time right now to figure this out but I'll get back to you.
