Nero Video Platinum 2018 crashes

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

I have purchased, and used, Nero 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, and 18 without problems. My Nero 2018 Platinum worked fine until today. Now Nero Video 2018 crashes every time I try to return to the selection arrow after using the scissors to cut a video. As soon as I click the selection arrow, after cutting a video in two, a window pops up saying, "Nero Video has encountered a serious problem and must close immediately." When I click "save" the program crashes. 

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. The problem persisted after the reinstall. I used Nero's "FirstAidKit.exe" tool to uninstall and downloaded the most recent version of Nero 2018 from Nero's web site and installed it. The crash problem continued to occur in the second new installation. I then tried installing my copy of Nero 2016 Platinum and it too has the same crash issue. It used to work fine as well.

There must be some recent Windows 10 or ADM driver update that Nero will not work with. I have no way of knowing what the problem is. All I know is this program I used, and loved, for years will not work now. This is the only program I am having problems with on my system. Your kind help would be very much appreciated.

Steps which causes crash in Nero Video 2018 Platinum:
I open Nero Video. I drag the stock Nero Video "flower" video to the timeline. I click the scissors tool and cut the video in two. I then clink the arrow selection tool to exit the cut tool and the program then pops up a window saying, "Nero Video has encountered a serious problem and must close immediately." I am asked to save the project. When I click "save" the program crashes.

RAM 16 GB
64 bit operating system with x64 based processor
AMD A8-7410 APU with ADM Radeon R5 Graphics 2.20 GHz

  • This might be a problem associated with win 10 updates.

    Do you have a system restore point to before when this problem occurred.

    Oddly, trying your steps today on my Windows 10 with Nero 2016 platinum, it took an extraordinarily long time for the "scissors" to take effect and an extraordinarily
    long time to return to the normal cursor ...

    I was going to suggest the following steps just in case it helps you ... but I have doubts given my experience ...

    It might be a case of the "cache" folders becoming corrupt. You can delete the Nero Video "Cache" folders, and they will be re-initiated when Nero Video starts up again.

    Where to do the deleting:

    Substitute your windows username for "YOUR USER NAME" below ...

    For Nero 2016 :

    (1)
    Delete the folder "Nero Vision" at
    C:\users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Nero\Nero 2016

    (2)
    Delete the folder "SharedMediaData" at
    C:\users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Nero

    (3)
    Delete the folder "Nero Vision" at
    C:\users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Nero\Nero 2016

    Note: The above folders are usually "hidden" folders in Windows, so you might have to use the "View" Tab in Windows File Explorer to show hidden files from C:\users\YOUR USER NAME
    and below.

    For Nero 2018 :

    (1)
    Delete the folder "Nero Vision" at
    C:\users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Nero\Nero 2018

    (2)
    Delete the folder "SharedMediaData" at
    C:\users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Nero

    (3)
    Delete the folder "Nero Vision" at
    C:\users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Nero\Nero 2018

    Lucky Phil, I don't know how folks like you figure this stuff out but your fix was brilliant. It worked like a charm. I was afraid my Nero 2018 was gone forever, but you got it back for me. Bless your heart for that. I had an important project I needed to do and I was working on it using an old junk computer with Nero 2014 on it. Thanks to you I can now move back to my new computer and Nero Video 2018.

    • Absolutely Phil. Someone who is kind enough to take their time to help a stranger, for free, certainly should be thanked. It is also important because it lets others with problems know your excellent fix worked. I rely on Nero Video a lot to do my own videos and help friends out from time to time. I was sure Nero would never work again until your kind suggestion fixed it. I finished my project without any problems and the software is working flawlessly. Thank you SO much for your kind help. It is truly appreciated.
