Nero Blu-ray Player

Why Nero Blu-ray Player does not:
1. support HD audio? DTS-HD MA for example?
2. have auto framerate?
3. support media files such as MKV, AVI, M2TS and so on? And a user must use another player (Nero MediaHome or Kwik Media)?

  • The blu-ray player is intended to play blu-ray discs and BDMV folders. In other words, projects authored to the blu-ray specs in something like Nero Video.

All the others are file formats and have to be played in Nero MediaHome.

I can't speak for the DTS..... or the auto framerate. You could ask tech support about it if someone else like Mister_M doesn't respond.

  • Thank you.

I don't know any other Blu-ray hardware or software player that cannot play MKVs or AVIs. Nero is the only exception to the rule.

About HD audio (DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD) and auto framerate. I don't think that tech support can help. Because Nero Blu-ray Player doesn't support these important features at all. My question is "Why"?
Meanwhile blu-ray players from competitors (ArcSoft, Cyberlink, Corel/sMedio) DO support HD audio and auto framerate. As well as MKVs, AVIs and so on.

I have Nero 2014 Platinum installed with an AMD Radeon HD 5800 Series Graphic card. Intel i7 CPU 3.20 Ghz, 6.00 GB memory. Samsung, Lite-On ATAPI iHBS 112 2 Blu-Ray CDRW/DVD, Windows 8.1

I get an error that Nero cannot play media regardless of what Blu-Ray disc is inserted.

  • Hi William-

If you're using Catalyst 13.9 as the driver for your HD 5800, you need to roll it back to a previous version. This is a know problem (there's another thread on it) and it's supposed to be fixed in the next Nero update.

  • I don't know, if DTS-HD is supported when you send the audio via bitstream to the A/V receiver.

I think that the licence costs for the HD audio formats are too high to offer a product like the whole Nero suite at that price.

For example Cyberlink's PowerDVD Ultra costs the same as the whole Nero suite, but is a playback software only.

I don't know if it will be offered by a plugin in the future.

Like wither said, the other formats, such as mkv or avi, can be played with MediaHome.

The frame rate is also set by the graphic card driver. If you want 24p playback, just change the frame rate in your driver's control panel.
