Nero Video Advanced/Custom Menu-Link Transition problem

Nero Video 12 (and previous versions)

Using advanced custom menus in Nero Video, where the menu backgrounds are HD video files, all of my 2-second "crossfade" transitions work very nicely ... that is, until they reach the very end of the transition. After the transition is complete, a black screen appears very briefly, and then the second menu's video background reloads and plays from it's beginning.

In case that's not clear, let me explain with a bit more detail:
My Main Menu background is using a 30-second, 1920x1080 video as a background. A text button on the Main Menu links to a second, Chapter Menu, also containing a 30-second video background. The transition effect (dosen't matter which ... the same thing happens) I've chosen, CROSSFADE, creates a perfect fade out of the first menu, with a nice overlapping fade in of the second menu's video background.

After the transition is entirely complete, the Chapter Menu's video background starts over from it's beginning, instead of continuing at the position it was after the fade in completed.

Needless to say, this looks awful. I've had this problem in Nero Vision and Video since I can remember, so I just never use the link transition option when authoring. But...I'd like to!

So, how do I get rid of this 'momentary black screen' and 'restart of the second video' problem?

  • I was under the impression that Nero staff responded to customer questions/problems on this support forum. My past experiences with email to Customer Support with a question or problem has only resulted in superfluous responses that have been of no help.

Has anyone used menu transitions (with video backgrounds) when authoring a BD in Nero Video?

Has there ever been a version of Nero Vision/Video where everything worked as it should? You'd think that with all of the versions and updates, these problems (SmartEncode, Fit-to-disc, menu transitions, etc.) would have been resolved years ago. And it's so frustrating to not receive help from Nero staff on their own support boards.

  • Nero employee support has been better here, so far, than in the old forum. We'll see how long that lasts.

I would think that the background video would always start from the beginning. I don't have time right now to create a project to see what you mean in regards to the black screen.

If this has happened in all Nero suites you've tried, have you ever addressed it to tech support?

I did write support several years ago regarding this, though it pertained to DVD authoring. I quit using the Menu Transitions since then, until the other day and was reminded of why I had quite using it.

Since the "Crossfade" transition is provided for MENU and LINK transitions, I assumed it would work just as it does in the VIDEO EDITING mode. The transitions from one menu to the next, or one link to another, are kind of silly looking if they don't function properly.

  • I had this problem also since Nero 10. Not only in menus but also with introvideo.
I solved it by using a longer video (more then 30 seconds) as background and setting the playback time to 30 seconds or lower and the start position about 5 seconds after the begin of the video so that is enough overlap for the crossfade transitions on both sides.

    It needs a little experimenting.

Btw, you have this effect also in crossfade transitions in videos. You must have the half length in minimum as overlap on both sides, for to be sure that it is working correctly. In NeroVsion/Nerovideo overlaps are created from still pictures for transitions video to image and versa, but not for transitions video to video. Seems logical on a kind.

Sorry, that I can not add an example video here to show. I don't publish on Youtube.
