Output file of edited mp4 is many times larger than input file size - why?

Hi, I suspect this has been answered before, but I can't find obvious answer after searching... The issue is:
I have 2 mp4 files: first is 1.3Gb, 2hr:16min long; 2nd is 151Mb, and 15 mins long. Both from same source. I used Nero video to join them, and chopped out about 5 mins of unwanted content. I then exported it as a mp4. But the output file is almost 7Gb in size! Resolution and frame rate are same as input files. My question is, without reducing any parameters, what do I need to do to export as mp4, but not create such vast files (I want to share via google drive with friends...). Many thanks.
