Upgrading Tuneitup fails every time. Unexpected error. Asked Nero for help 10 days ago. No answer. Only a promise. Wasn't kept. Lost 30 Euro's on this matter.

  • Piet, sorry to hear about the issues. We could see in the backend that the serial has not been activated yet, so for some reason the code is not being sent to the activation server.

Could you try the following after you close Nero TuneItUp.

    (1) Open the Windows Control Panel
    (2) select Internet Options
    (3) Check the 'Advanced' tab
    (4) Scroll Down to Use TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2. Make sure these are all checked and then click on Apply and OK.
    (5) Launch Nero TuneItUp and enter the activation code again

  • I'm sorry, but that didn't solve te problem. Could my upgrade to Windows 10 make any difference?

  • This particular error message means that there was no real error in the communication (server error, problem with the serial, problem with a secure connection) but it was not possible to check and validate the serial number.

Could you work through the options below and let us know if any of these solved the issue?

    1. Internet connection via proxy server.
-> set an internet connection without proxy server

    2. Logged in to the computer in a domain network with restricted user rights
-> log in with local admin rights to the computer

    3. System time of your computer is not correct.
-> set computer time correctly (see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wi... , on how to sync the PC time with an internet time server)

Nero TuneItUp creates a log file, which could also help trouble shoot the issue. If you go to about >>> open log file >>> copy contents into the next post.

We really want to get this resolved and appreciate your help.

  • Thanks for the log. Error 12038 comes from the Windows HTTP-Client and means there is an SSL error, which in turn points to a configuration issue.

Could you open Internet Explorer and try to access https pages such as https://support.microsoft.com or https://de-de.facebook.com/.

Do these sites open without any error messages? If yes, could you post a screenshot of the error message.

We also found some advice in the Windows forum for a user that had a very similar issue after upgrading to Windows 10.

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...
The suggestion is to "try switching to another region and then switching back. Also, after syncing the time with any of the internet based servers, do a restart, and wait!"

Could you also check if multiple security software products are installed and suspend them while trying to activate Nero TuneItUp Pro?

  • Thanks for your answer, but after a program update of tune-it-up free, yesterday, the upgrade suddenly succeeded. Very fast, actually. The pro version of tune-it-up even works better than I expected. Thanks very much.

  • Glad it worked out. Suggestions and feature requests are always welcome. Just start a new "ideas" thread. There will be quarterly updates of Nero TuneItUp.
