None of my Feed are updating

Noticed this a couple of hours ago on my Nexus 7 tablet & now on my desktop, none of my feeds have updated now in over 2 hours. Considering the number of feeds I have it's usually always have 10+ stories in it and I'm only showing 8 which are unread from a Followshoes which I have not marked as read.

Same here. I think this is a global issue. Not working on desktop or android. All stories being "marked as read" so if I click on a feed/folder and show "all" then I can see new stuff I haven't read yet. Insta-fetch doesn't work for me, just keeps spinning.

Same problem, no updates since last night. I was able to manually click each feed which seemed to force an update, then when I refreshed the page the new posts were listed as new items. Very annoying.

Ditto, no updates across Pale Moon, Chrome and Android App.

Yesterday, I noticed some of my feeds were not marking items "read" when I read them. Last time my NewsBlur on the computer (Pale Moon) was working was around 1:57am Eastern Time.

And then later, I was actually looking at my Android feed when it went blank. I saw the app automatically update and poof, it was as if all my folders had been deleted on the Android only.

The feeds are updating it is just the counts on the side bar that seem to not be updating, at least for me... I guess everyone will have to check all their rss feeds.

For me, probably about 10% of my 1500 feeds are updating. For the ones that are updating, all of the new stories are marked as read, which is why the counts are not updating for anything.

Weird. The counts are not updating, and if I click on a FOLDER it doesn't display anything, but if I select individual feeds, those seem to fetch properly.

I haven't looked at the code, but my guess is that the folder/feed count is done via a push and when you click on a feed it does a specific pull/fetch of the data. So clicking a specific feed *should* work.

Noticed this on the twitter feed of the company @DigitalOcean who runs the servers for NewsBlur

https://twitter.com/digitalocean/stat...

"At this time events in AMS2 have been temporarily disabled as our engineering team diagnoses an issue causing event processing delays."

Maybe this has something to do with it?

A new DigitalOcean Amsterdam Datactenter with shared private networking opens today. Located in a TelecityGroup facility, the new AMS2 offers expanded server capacity in Europe and shared private networking, a feature previously only available in the NYC2 datacenter.
(source: https://www.digitalocean.com/company/...)

So they disabled the datacentre in Amsterdam which might not be the issue.

According to a reply to that twitter conversation, they finished the maintenance about four hours ago. If it was the cause of the problem for Newsblur, something apparently has be done with the Newsblur server itself to restart events.

Has anyone used the updated Safari RSS reader in Apple's IOS Yosemite public beta? If so, can you tell me how to find it and set it up? Otherwise I find a good alternative RSS reader to be that offered by Digg, though it doesn't seem to update as frequently as Newsblur. (It's not like Sam to be unresponsive, even if on vacation, so I'm beginning to get concerned.

If the times relate to feeds stopping maybe a back end job fell over during he work?

It looks like it’s just the web site front end that’s broken. Apps like ReadKit (Mac) appear to be working. I’d guess Reeder will be working too. The API and back end appear to be working fine.

I’ll just use ReadKit till the web site is working again.

Put me down as another example.

"All site stories" has no feeds with unread stories, and the reading pane in empty.

When I clicked on one of my feeds (BoingBoing) it still gave me no new articles.

When I refreshed the browser page after that, BoingBoing showed 12 unread articles.

My newsblur username matches my twitter

Agreed. I'm a mix of pissed off and concerned. Pissed that a service I pay for isn't working, concerned because I know it is essentially a one man operation and it's not like him to be this unresponsive to a serious issue. I hope he is okay.

Wow people, yes we pay for this a whole $12 a year; and I have been using newsblur since the start. That is years of use everyday, and yet this is the first time I can remember that it has been down like this. Samuel is on top of it most days, but he is only one man working on this awesome project, that he does b/c he loves it. Give the guy a break.

Yes, we all unknowingly got addicted to Newsblur. And now when we go in for a shot of dopamine, nothing happens. Oh the terror! Maybe Samuel should do what other people do when they realize their customers are addicts: they charge them more. Or maybe we should transcend our frustration and get a life, or at least one free of addiction.

It works, not well, doesn't get all threads, but it kinda works sometimes. I tried dumping all my feeds and then re-importing the opml file. That got me a "one-time" update, but feeds are still not updating the way they should. Also appears we have zero workarounds for mobile access.

Yup.

It is a bit disappointing that there doesn't seem to even be a quick "sorry, stuff is broken, we're working on it" notice, especially since I actually paid for a service on the web. D:

Samuel mentioned in another issue I follow that he was going on vacation. That might explain why we haven't heard from him. Normally he is all over these issues.

edit:
Here is the issue with him posing that he would be on vacation. That is all I know though.

Might be a good time for people to download a backup of their feed list (Gear > Account > Download OPML) just in case.

Worth noting that if you:

1) Show all (not unread) feeds
2) Click on feeds that you'd expect to have stuff
You can see new items right there, but if you also

3) wait about 10 minutes
The unread item count you saw in the feed's item pane will show up in your feed list (and will be available via the API for other clients)

I plan on clicking through all my feeds before my commute home if the problem still exists.

That works for some feeds, but not all. One of my feeds sees 100's of threads per day, but Newsblur is only showing 15 over the last 24 hours. No amount of Insta-fetch of clicking is fetching anything beyond those 15 threads.

Meanwhile Feedly is working fine. The UI and functionality isn't as good, but at least I can keep up with my feeds for now.

I see the new items, but they're not marked as unread, and the counts are not updating. So it seems that fetching is working, but the "unread" state tracking is broken.

I am concerned because I very much like Newsblur and miss it.

I am also irritated - not because the $12/year service isn't perfect, but because there isn't an announcement or acknowledgment about the nature of the issue.

That said, I am still breathing, my lawn needs mowing, my water and sewage and power work fine, I am in good health, and I am old enough to remember the time when the only way to get the information Newsblur gives me effortlessly was to spend countless hours in the library - knowing that everything was days or weeks old.

Get over it, folks. (Yeah, if you were paying $1000/year, you would be entitled to better service and complaining would be fair game.)

When you're charging 7,500+ people $24/year, you're looking at a $180,000/year business. I don't think it's unreasonable for people to expect some level of response to a significant outage that's been ongoing for 24 hours now.

I'm not sure a $180k/year business is enough to have more than one full-time employee after you factor in overhead/taxes/infrastructure.

I'd like to see an update, too, but Newsblur isn't Google.

@geoffwood You forget the costs of all the servers, hosting, traffic and all. You might want to look at a blog posting from some time ago to get an idea of the scale: http://blog.newsblur.com/post/7949100...

And in the mean time he's still cranking out all kind of features and other improvements. And now it's down for a few hours? Well he can almost be down for a whole day and still score better than many other big professional companies ;-)

I'm not "forgetting" all the costs involved, I'm just saying that at a turnover of close to $200K/year, it's a real business, not a hobby, and there is some obligation to it's customers. I get that it is a one man show, but if that's the case you don't drop offline for an extended period because people will be forced to find alternate solutions
