I’m wondering.

Why doesn't WL make NIng Apps?

Why doesn't WL make NIng Apps?
Evil G has his pulse on the artieries of what we Ning NCs want. He has all the cool features we want, we have the money he wants. Seems simple to me. If E.G. would create Ning Apps we would buy them and have the features we want, and he'd have his business back. He has all the cool apps like the chatroom we want, the who visited me thing, and the date me deal. Lol, I forgot the names of the apps but you know what I'm saying. Ning has the customers, WLabs has the cood gadgets. E.G. make Ning apps, make us happy, make lots of money. Unless you hate Ning too much. :( As far as I know NIng Apps is openSocial so anyone can make them.

  • I did invest in him and Ning took all of the apps away. The guy even tried to allow us to have the IM feature after getting banned..he didnt run off..he was probably making good money with ning..

As far as I'm concerned (A 2+ year ning user) there are/were 3 good app makers. WL, Scripts4Ning (not this new joomla expander junk) and NingMods (You).

I think you've got the best apps on Ning currently but WL was the best in his day I think. He made my site MUCH more interactive

  • Hey Demon,

Have a look at the joomla expander modules system on front page here:
    http://sitesuites.ning.com/

Tell me if you still think thats junk (Joomla Expander)

Seems as though over 200 users would disagree with you, however, we all have our own opinion.

NOTE: I am the creator of most of the scripts4ning stuff and Joomla Expander and lots of other stuff on the web. Joomla Expander isnt the only thing I can do.

  • I’m confident in NING + Site Suites!
As a customer of Scripts4Ning and now Site Suites, you must not know Vince's work very well to make such rash remarks as the Joomla Expander being JUNK. You obviously have not been on the front end or back end of it. It is endless what can be added and not effect the running of your network.

I started out using Widget Laboratories a year ago, but when they got booted from NING, they also did not return my money I had just invested. I found Scripts4Ning and subscribed till NING bought them out and now have all S4N scripts for free on my networks. (good deal for us original S4N subscribers)

If it wasn't for Vince and his team and now the Joomla Expander I would be moving to a different platform. Obviously NING likes what Vince does, they bought S4N and now have approved the Joomla Expander.
    • is that you tu diabetes? lol...i think ning's posting another few blogs about you
    • @Demon5 I don't know what you mean about your comment above?? Using some sort of pun? I entered my response to your post with complete honesty. I don't need to rally with anyone. I make my own choices and speak my own opinions. I have concerns with NING, but I still like what I get, for what I pay for. We are not paying NING like these outrageous fees. I want to see them more communicative about what is happening and respond more to what people post here at Get Satisfaction. But I am not going to come in and bash companies. And as far as SS sending out an email like you say below to 'rally' support. You make that a bad thing??? Not very many NC even come in here to Get Sat to post or read so they dont know about all the bashing. I would never hesitate to ask anyone to come back me up if they believed in me or what I do & someone was posting negatively about me. What is wrong with that? You painted such a distorted picture of what was done. This thread has gotten way out of hand and its mainly because of you saying that something is junk (HARSH word) that you don't even have personal experience with. Joomla expander is not for the beginner web NC. Which are the ones who end up saying they dont like it. Its not that it is hard to set up, its just a learning curve and extra work depending on what you use it for.

Bottom line, this thread should have focused on WL being able to make apps. Not dragging others into negatively.

I really enjoyed EG at WL's apps when I used them as well. Whatever happened there was just too bad. (But if you remembered their apps slowed down networks, part of the reason they stopped allowing them) I'm all up for NING allowing them (WL) and others to create for NING. I am a Apple/Mac user for over 8 years and look at the iPhone store? And now Google Wave too! I LOVE the possibilities! They are just endless! And I love the possibilities SS is offering me. It IS making ALL the difference for me and running my networks.

I seem to be constantly defending myself lately? Not once have I uttered a word against Ningmods in a public manner or mocked (as I have received). and all I've ever said is good things?

my opinion is that the joomla expander is JUNK...i'm sorry...it takes forever to load those scripts on your very own site....i went to siteuites..its EXTREMELY slow loading..and who in there right mind wants to learn joomla for a ning site?
for what reason?? to get a messy new forum??

  • Everybody is entitled to their opinion. It's all good.

The Expander is aimed at the advanced and professional market on Ning who have surpassed what Ning has to offer. It's not for everybody.

It affords much more than a forum to the NC's who employ it. And it has backend systems in play that allow it to do much more for the NC than they could ever do on Ning alone.

And the days of those 'awesome' apps are over. For every original 3rd party developer. At least for now...

  • Cool man. You too.

The Expander is in its early days. We'll be tightening the speed up over time. Its just massively complex layer upon layer to get it to do what it does. Vince is already beginning to bring modules from the components to the homepage and to the sitewide column - further consolidating the whole Joomla! experience. In time, it will be rocking. But for the people who needed it and all its backend secret functionality, they're very happy with what it does for them even at this point.

  • Its still in phase one development, slowly moving into phase 2.

When I originally put out the scripts4ning scripts, I got slagged for those too when I started rolling them out. People couldnt understand them and I got quite a few nasty messages from people slagging my service because I didnt answer them the next day etc etc. Its easy to judge something from a distance and call it crap. Back in the day, I was just experimenting. Joomla Expander is also new territory.

We're providing more than just Joomla Expander though, we've got more stuff on the way, its just one of many (just the main one at the moment). We'll keep pressing on. The main thing is some people do like it. If I developed this stuff and only 10 people liked it, thats actually good enough for me.

Theres actually some very good hidden benefits to Joomla, but I'll leave it at that.

Sitesuites has stayed on top of the market and worked very hard at dealing with Nings constant change.

You should keep track of sitesuites, so you can see all the amazing products you're missing out on. This is only the begining!

  • I’m indifferent
I already know what you're thinking, so don't say it: "and in walks the official SiteSuites cheerleader!" Right. Let's get to it then. Not only do I like the Joomla Expander, I love it. I love a challenge and I love the possibilities that it offers. I have worked in administrative capacity at one successful corporation or another, know a potential winner when I see one, and never hesitate to throw my support (financial or otherwise) behind it (Merrill Lynch was an aberration of course). The Joomla components have inspired me to want more from my network, and hopefully within the week, I will have stripped my network of it's Ning-ness, and my niece and I will rebuild it anew, I have learned much from Vince and SiteSuites. Those who have nothing but derisive remarks or scorn for SIteSuites are those who can not see beyond today. I would be willing to wager a fortune the detractors of SiteSuites will be forced to choke on their own words two years hence.

    Gute nacht all.

It is best expressed by a line from "Applause" .... "fasten your seat belts it's gonna be a bumpy ride."
Nothing that takes the world by storm is going to be "easy." Anybody can do "easy." I am in awe of the sitesuites crew AND other developers who are moving mountains while we, sometimes impatiently, wait for the next big thing. Content is King. Providing content and tying in various forms of networks, blogs and static sites is what designers want now and will want even more in the future. SiteSuites and WL and others are working their buns off. Leave 'em alone.

sad? no not quite..i stated an honest opinion..i think the new joomla thing is below what people would expect from s4n..and all of a sudden, this becomes the most popular post? suspiciously after Vince sent an email begging for support? c'mon. thats ridiculous.

argue the merits of the apps and stop the ad hominem attacks..they're ALMOST as childish as sending a blast email and begging for support. lol HURRY guys. someone doesn't like my work.
    • The problem here is you are insinuating that Sitesuites has degraded its ability. Whereas, if you really knew what was going on, youd realize that its not their fault. All development has been locked down on Ning. Development can be done on their new OS, but its not ready yet. Even Ningmods system is being locked down. Has he produced anything new lately? no. Thats because he's not allowed. He has to move to open social to. So lets put it in perspective. If Sitesuites Joomlabridge is not as efficient as the old scripts, and Ning has locked down development, whos fault do you think that is? Also... I dont think Vince is "pathetic" as you say. From what I know and others, hes a great guy. Nothing wrong with asking people to speak up for him.

Looks like his account is gone. Should have been lucky he was talking to you here because hes one of the very few who has a good understanding of whats going on with Ning.

p.s. you should backoff from personal attacks. I see you've done that to Vince and Noelle on this thread. That is the behaviour of a pathetic looser.
    • his account isn't gone ..he changed his name to "Ghost" ..and i didnt attack them personally..they're a great team..excellent customer service...i understand that Ning is the reason that they dont make apps like they used to. but you can tell me, with a straight face, that the slow loading joomla thing is on par with the old S4N...want to blame Ning - fine, i agree with you. but it is what it is

I know that the team makes every effort (in web casts, etc) in explaining how it works but still doesn't seem to be useful to my network. I don't think I'm going to continue using it. Load times are extremely slow and i agree that the ning forum is a cleaner one. I don't mean any harm to sitesuites, they are an exceptional bunch of developers with excellent customer service.

I didn't care much for WL, but Scripts4Ning was definitely one of the best things that Ning had going for it...

The S4N team was quick to release new features that were in demand, the features were actually fully integrated with the Ning platform, and they were always very responsive to feedback/bug reports/etc.

It's a shame that Ning took this power away (among other things) from NCs.........

I'm sure the Joomla Expander is great for some NCs, but for me it's just too slow and lacks seamless integration with the Ning platform. :(

  • I'm fairly new to Ning as an NC (started in Jan after being a member on another Ning site for a year). I do not know any of the players in this thread, and I have very limited coding experience outside of basic web dev.

That said, I want to add that I have found the Joomla Expander to be an excellent 'upgrade' from the basic Ning palette and offers features that I could not develop otherwise. I am not familiar with Ningmods, WL or any other 3rd party dev (including S4N prior to SS) so I can not speak to any comparison. I recognize that any initial release of sw will never be as good as its subsequent releases as everyone learns from experience - and I am ok with that as an NC, and run my site (and inform my members) accordingly.

I trust that SS will fine tune issues like the load times (already happening) and any other issues us NCs bring up within reason.

I see no valid reason for anyone to bash on this site aside from fear of competition. But again, the only politics I am aware of are what I've read in this thread, and frankly, I don't have time to get into the middle of any of that.

Yes, I have now been made aware of this support page on Get Sat via an email from the SS team, and my curiosity led me to take a peek. I as not 'begged' to come here and support valid constructive criticism - which aside from the load times comment, I have yet to see.

So off I go, currently happy with my choice to go with the JE, not blind to its initial flaws, and willing to stick with it through the early stages.

    Good luck to all.
