Since around Friday 13th (spooky I know), I have been unable to submit my iOS app via Application Loader.
I see errors such as 'Apple's web service operation was unsuccessful'. Has anyone else encountered the same issue? This is for an app I have already been able to submit in the past, so nothing that new other than small code changes.

We had the same problem. Downgraded to App Loader version 2.8 and all went OK.It seems to be a problem with the Application Loader and is itermitent. Good luck (because is the only thing we need making an upload request to Apple Store =/)

Dear Everyone
I received email from Frank Maric for his test app, tried upload via AL 2.9 on all of our Mac machines (3 unit) but we failed to reproduce the problem on every single of them. The only error we received is a warning message related to incompatible icons (though it still can be submitted).
Hence, I would like everybody to remove and re-create a new app for one last time. Rebuild and upload via AL 2.9 / 2.8 then let us know the result.
Anyway, sorry to hear of all the troubles but we really don't know who / which / what is causing the problem.
Thank you

Hi Amir,
Thank you for investigating with our ipa. This is certainly progress and it seems that the ipa produced by PG Build 2.9 is OK.
What version of OS X are you running, we are on Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) and have tried with AL 2.8 and 2.9.
We will try to rebuild the ipa and then upload with AL 2.8 and 2.9 again.
I will post results.
Thank you again,
Frank

Getting the same issue - app that worked and was submitted successfully previously worked fine but now getting a series of cryptic error messages when attempting to submit with the app loader.

See my comments below... i think it's an OS version problem.. You need to get to Mountain Lion 10.8 for AL 2.8, and then 10.8.5 for 2.9. (it's mentioned in the update notes when downloading 10.8.5)

We're upgrading to OSX 10.8 shortly and trying again. You have to download 10.8 from iTunes. It's not a normal update. So once we get it downloaded and installed, we'll advise the results.
Stay tuned.

Well, Well, Well..... Upgrading to OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) works with AL 2.8. I managed to successfully upload my app.
Once you upgrade to 10.8 you'll also have to run an update for OSX 10.8 again that will install AL 2.9... So if you have downloaded 2.9 separately from the developer portal whilst running OSX 10.7.5 or earlier, this may explain why it's not working. Thanks for those clear instructions Apple, and useful error messages...
To upgrade to OS/X 10.8 Select the Apple icon => App Store. You will have to pay for this upgrade it is not part of 10.7 (Lion) update
I wouldn't have been able to work this out without PG's help by testing Frank's ipa, so thanks guys. Everyone else post your results to confirm...

OS X 10.8.5
Application Loader 2.9
It now uploads fine (albeit with the icon warnings) thanks to Giulio Campobassi's suggestion.

Thanks Carl and Giulio for reporting your findings.
It's odd, as the apple docs https://itunesconnect.apple.com/docs/... say you need OS X 10.7 min, and even when you install AL 2.9, it does not fail to install if like me you installed it on 10.7.3
I shall get myself onto 10.8 asap and hopefully all will be ok from then on.
PhoneGap - I take it you guys tested against latest OS X in all your tests of our apps?

What a nightmare...
Sorry guys, I am sure you are working hard on getting the App Store and all the software running but...
I am on 10.6.8 and have no intention to upgrade it.
I had troubles a month ago getting a version of Application Loader working and finally succeeded with 2.5.1 (235). It worked great until today.
So what option do I have? I mean other than giving Apple some more money buying a new OS I do not need nor want.

Apple control the process. At some point they will change the server infrastructure and systems that will make your local install incompatible with their servers. Looks like the time has come.
if you decide to not subscribe to the way they do it, you're fooling yourself if you think you can live on 10.6 forever. Welcome to "vendor lock in"

Oh yes! I totally agree with that, but I like fooling myself for a few minutes sometimes... :)
PhoneGap is a great tool and it is probably a total nightmare to adapt to Windows Phone, iOS and cie.
Anyway, I'll find a Mac with 10.8 somewhere, install AL 9 and cross fingers.

I'm using vmware player and did a fresh install of 10.8 retail - updated to 10.8.5 via app store and grabbed the latest AL from itunes connect.
Working fine here now.
The only purpose I have for a mac system is uploading to Apple, I do all my dev work in windows, thats why I begrudge buying a mac, it's bad enough having to buy the OS just to submit an app.

I know it's a complete rort.. But we've all bought into Apple's paradigm by electing to support iOS for our Apps... As I have said before..

Carl - Does VMWare player for Windows support retail versions of 10.8 then?
I was just looking at their docs for installing 10.8 as a VM - http://partnerweb.vmware.com/GOSIG/Ma...
Says you must use an Apple-labelled computer, so how did you get around this as you are using a windows host.

With difficulty is the short answer, you have to use something called vmware unlocker to enable the software to even install OS X.
Some users have to use additional things like a hardware virtualization bypasser if your PC doesn't support hardware virtualization, thankfully mine does.
I'm sure that Apple don't like this and is probably against the EULA, but again I'm not spending £500 on a mac just to upload an App binary every now and then.

And to confirm, this will let you install a retail version (non Hackintosh) version of OS X?
Are you using VMWare Workstation? I see its £190!

Perhaps the root cause of my issue is that I am using a 'Hackintosh' version of 10.7.3 on windows host (I am using Virtual Box)
I was able to upload apps fine up until over 2 weeks ago when I kicked off this forum thread. This was around the time iOS 7 rollout began too, so I wonder if Apple have now started detecting these bootleg hackintosh versions of OS X.
I got a colleague of mine to use his personal Macbook, which has 10.7.2 installed on (I have 10.7.3), to download AL 2.9 and upload my ipa file. The upload was successful (just the missing icon warnings).
One thing I did look at on the submitted binary in my Itunes Connect was the Binary Details section. It lists Support Architectures as' armv7, armv7s'. The error I get is 'Unsupported Architectures' when uploading via my VM of OS X. Could it be that the fact I am running my VM off a windows host using non armv7 processor cores be causing Apple to reject my app submission?
Maybe, I am off target here, or maybe there is some sense. Either way, I think I now need to be using a proper retail version of OS X!

I was now successful submitting my app.
I changed a number of things and can't really say what was the solution.
Used another Mac to submit with OS X 10.7.5, and changed my Icon file names.
I used phonegap 2.9 to build via phonegap build and submitted with Application Loader 2.8.

Didn't work for me. I'm running on an actual MacBook (as opposed to a Hackintosh) OS X 10.8.5 and Application Loader 2.9
Here are the 3 errors I get:
1) Apple's web service was not successful
2) Unable to authenticate the package: ###########.itmsp
3) ERROR ITMS-9000: "The bundle identifier cannot be changed from the current value, [and then my bundle id], If you want to change your bundle identifier, you will need to create a new application in iTunes Connect." at SoftwareAssets/SoftwareAsset (MZItmspSoftwareAssetPackage)
huh?
I built this app using PGB2.9

If I recall that's the error I got when trying to upload an app built with the wrong distribution key.
I had built using my debug/testing key instead of the live distribution key.

Thanks Carl. I wonder there's more I need to do on the Mac. I just found this page: https://build.phonegap.com/docs/confi... which talks about Keychain Access utility to export certificates. I didn't do that part. I just created my provisioning profiles and uploaded them to PGB. PGB built my app so I figured all was well.

Turns out I was using the wrong key. I had a Distribution provisioning profile but it was created against the wrong APP ID. I just created a second one for the correct APP ID.
Also, you do not NEED the Keychain Access utility. I'm sure it works if you want to use it, but I'm telling you you don't need it. In the "signing keys" section of PGB, you have to supply your certificate and a .p12 file. It's the .p12 file that the keychain tool creates (I guess). I was able to create my .p12 file using openssl
I successfully built my app in PGB using this new key and I successfully submitted my app to Apple using Application Loader 2.9.
AFAIK the Application Loader is the only thing that will REQUIRE you to have a Mac. I've done everything else on windows7.

I faced similar issue today while uploading .ipa via application loader which was opened directly from spotlight. Every time it was passing all the steps but getting stuck at Authentication. (AL Version 2.9)
After dozens of failed trials, I launched Xcode and opened application loader from Xcode (AL Version 2.8) and repeated earlier step. Interestingly it failed at first checking step itself! It said it had some issue with certificate .. so followed all the steps again to get new certificates in itunesconnect and on mac. (if some one wants.. here are good instructions with pics)
It got authenticated and the binary file uploaded fine.

I have trouble uploading my newly developed App to the Apple store trough Xcode (5.0.1) on Maverick (MacBook Pro Retina 15").
The Analysis of the application succeeds but the uploading lasts for ever with a dialog box showing "Your application is being upload to the Apple store..."
Any clues?
Many thanks in advance,
Gabriel

Apple are horrendously un-cooperative, and the lack of communication from PG is a serious concern. We're at the point now of assessing whether we should use other service providers because we don't know if PG/Adobe has this as an issue or is letting it float along.
