What about the config.xml, is it necessary?

I built an Iphone app uploading a zipfile from one of my Windows machine. I did not provide the config.xml file which I believed was compulsory. The app compiled, loaded and is working on my Iphone wihout a glitch. Any comments on this one. What would go wrong without the config.xml? Anybody having a good example of the "config.xml"?

The app. is not a simple test-app type "Hello World". It contains event capturing, interaction blocking and many timers, internal and UI, counters internal and UI etc. And it "PhoneGapped" for the Iphone! It came out clean and neat and working. For what I believe is the worst of devices to produce for (Apple's cert . profile and app handling nightmare). The result: the best device to produce for and I am really greatful and happy for the efforts of the JQuery Mobile team and PhoneGap folks!

You don't need to include a config.xml file on any platform.

The config.xml, when using PhoneGap Build, exposes various configuration options that are not available through the web interface. You can read more about those here:
