Menu and "+" buttons not working on Android on Chromebook

Recently, when I try to use the Android version on my Chromebook (Pixelbook), the "+" and menu buttons cannot be selected. So, I can create a note and edit it (the pen, eraser, lasso, and text buttons all work), but I can't change the name, paper etc. (functions accessed from the menu button) or add images, shapes, etc.

This only happens on my chromebook. MetaMoji Note still works properly on my Android phone and Windows computer. The change started on my chromebook several weeks ago. Before that, it worked perfectly. The problems have persisted across updates to MetaMoji Note and to ChromeOS. I am currently running the latest stable ChromeOS for the Pixelbook (and the associated version of Android P).

    Hi Rob,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

MetaMoJi Note does not support Chrome OS unfortunately.
There is no plan to support the OS at this moment.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Regards,
    Toshi

  • Hi Rob and Toshi,

I don't think Toshi fully understood your question. The Pixelbook is actually running the Android version of your app, not a ChromeOS version.

However, there is a solution. I noticed the problem only occurs on high resolution. If you set you resolution to 1200x800 (100%) then the menus reappear.

Toshi, with that new information I wonder if your engineers might not have a simple fix?

    regards,

    Csaba

      Rob told us
      >I am currently running the latest stable ChromeOS for the Pixelbook (and the associated version of Android P).
    • That's correct. Android runs alongside the ChromeOS on the machine. But the app running is your Android app. Not a different version. What seems to be happening is that the rendering of the outer buttons on the screen is prevented when the screen resolution is high on the Chromebook.
The Chromebook running Android is a powerful and growing platform and your application is by far the best note taking app I have seen for the platform, so it would be nice if this could be sorted. There are not many applications that make good use of the pen that is available on platform and yours is one of the best!

  • I just discovered another bizarre aspect of this problem. The "menu" and "+" buttons actually work .. it is just that you can't see the pop down menus. But try this: click the + button, then move your cursor down a little and click. The menu item that corresponds to the position of the cursor will pop up!!!
So the "+" menu pops up, it's just that we can't see it when the Pixelbook is in high resolution wetting!
This is partly Pixelbook problem (there have been a lot of screen rendering issues) but perhaps the developers could help mitigate the problem for MetaMojI?

  • Same problem for me, running on HP Chromebook X2, same answer from Toshi: "We don't support Chrome OS" ( even if Chrome run a custom version of Android) even there's no support to Android at all it's almost a year since the last update and looks like the developer abandoned the app ( or the business version have the priority)

  • I have the HP Chromebook X2 also and I got the buttons to work by forcing desktop mode while I am using it as a tablet. Here are the instructions to enable the flag and toggle desktop and tablet modes https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comments/9zqo9l/can_you_force_desktop_mode_in_chrome/

    "Enable this flag:

    chrome://flags/#ash-debug-shortcuts

Then you can use the virtual or physical keyboard combo CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+T. You can use this to switch between tablet and desktop modes."

  • This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Tablet issues.

My samsung chromebook pro was working fine with metamoji until my computer automatically updated to Version: 76.0.3809.102. Now I can no longer press the “+” sign in tablet mode which lets me add a photo with my stylus. I can press it using my trackpad mouse but before my computer automatically updated I was able to press the plus sign and add photos using my stylus on tablet mode.
