Experiencing latency and audio popping issues when I connect my NS7II Display to my Windows computer

Having this exact issue on pc! After a few hours I get this horrible crackling popping sound! I have tried, Virtual DJ, Serato, Traktor, I updated every imaginable thing, cables, usb, viruse, firewall, drivers, etc. Problem is on BOTH NS7FX & NS711. Sent them in for repair, came back with no problems found! If you find a fix, please let me know!!!!!!! Thank you!

So I understand the fix for the mac but what about us who are using PC. What do I need to fix the issue? I really don't think its fair to buy a unit and still have to buy other accessories.

Same Issue. Running Windows 10 Asus I7 8gig Ram NS7II with NS7DISPLAY ! Heavy popping and latency issues. Updated to latest firmware and drivers still has problem. Adjusted latency buffer in Serato and in the drivers and still happens. The moment i disconnect the screen and run it direct it's fine. It is unfair to purchase an $80 adapter for mac users I agree and for PC users have u fixed this yet ? Please have this issue rectified asap.

    • Tim, if you find anything that resolves this issue, please let me know! I will do the same for you! I am running a PC / Core i5 / 8 GB Ram / 1 TB HD /

One interesting thing I have figured out about this issue is that it is volume related. If I am at home, using a low watt amp and small speakers it can run forever with no problems, but at a nightclub or gig the more volume you give the amp it makes the problem happen much sooner. I have tried to have the NS7 master volume set as low as possible, but once I have to crank up the amps, specially at a night club, forget it! Sounds like an old record, or blown out speakers.

USB Buffering size, Latency settings, optimizing, fresh program install of both NS7 & DJ software. Symptoms show up using Serato & Virtual DJ.

Nothing has worked for me, please keep me posted!

      Best of luck! Thanks!
    • Do you have anti virus software installed?
If you do remove it and the try it again you should find the anti virus software will make the computer use cpu

  • Hello Everyone,

Thanks for posting this and the detailed information along with it. As with any USB audio interface, there are many potential causes of symptoms like distortion, artifacts (clicks/pops/crackling), and latency. Sometimes the USB port can fail to connect to the USB audio device. This is particularly true with cheap low quality third party USB ports and cables. This guide provides some helpful tips to troubleshoot the issue - click here.

Please attempt the steps that I suggested below to help you out.

Update Serato DJ to the latest version

Update NS7II and NS7II Display drivers
    Windows Display Driver v1.0.0
    Windows 8.1 Driver v2.9.64
    • Connect the NS7II to the computer directly, not to the rear of the NS7II Display.
    • Connect the NS7II Display directly to an available USB port on your computer.

If you're connecting the NS7II to a port on the rear of the display, and then connecting the display to a single USB port on your computer, it may be that the bandwidth and/or electrical draw that that port supports is being exceeded.

If this is the case, one of the following could resolve this for you:

    1. If you're connecting an additional device (aside from the NS7II) to the rear of the display, try removing it. That could be the device putting the USB port/hub over the edge.

    2. Try connecting the devices (paired as-is) to a different USB port on your computer. Your computer's ports aren't created equal, and one will likely perform better than the other.

    3. If 1 and 2 above don't help, connect the NS7II directly to one port on your computer, and the display directly to another port on your computer.

    • Set buffer sizes in Serato DJ to either 5, 10 or 20. Find the buffer size that works best for you.

    Optimize your computer for Serato

  • im thinking there needs to be a driver update for windows 10 or something cause i've been trying every possible way to get this to work and the longest i can go with out the latency kicking in is about 15 minutes, it also starts happening when i disconnect the screens, I can go a little bit longer but the pops start coming back soon after i start.

  • What I know is that Serato has released 1.8.0 which has windows 10 support, so its now up Numark to do the same. I have already contacted customer service and they said they are working on it. I hope they can come up with something very soon. I also own the numark NV and I don't have the popping problem, why can't they see what they did right on the screens for the NV and transfer to the NS7 II display?

  • I’m sad
Update, thought the problem was solved after one gig & a fresh install of the firmware.... Nope, it's back.
I did every thing from fresh install of drivers, firmware, PC optimizing, new USB cables, switched USB ports, turned off Wifi, tried Serato & Virtual DJ. Fresh install of Virtual DJ & Serato, fresh install of Numark drivers & firmware, Actually used a different laptop, changed latency settings. After 2 hours, crackling & popping sound comes back every time. Restarting the NS7 & laptop are the only resolve. By the way this issue is with both the NS7FX & NS7II. The only change is that my job at the night club is now on the line, due to the crackling sound issue. My back up controller to the NS7II is the NS7FX.... I am really screwed up here. HELP!

i had some crackling that was due to faulty xlr cables one time, had some special L shaped ones that i got on ebay to accommodate the tite fit around in my proX case. maybe it's cable related. if it's computer related, u may just want to consider getting a new computer exclusively dedicated to ur dj hardware and use it for nothing else but that, keep it offline. Couple hundred dollars online get u something refurbished nice on ebay. I got a lonovo that fulfills the requirements for the ns7fx, only costed around 230 or less. I'd check the requirements for the hardware u own, then purchase. if it's not hardware related or cable related, it's likely related to the computer you're using. windows 7 is dope, thats what i got, 32 bit for ns7fx works fine.

A lot of issues with cracks and pops are caused by the following
Removing any installed anti virus software by companies like mcafee, norton, as when i had mcafee installed it used a lot of cpu and when i was djing this would cause the laptop to freeze ,so i removed anti virus.
use a good quality usb lead.. this works.
    disable wifi while djing.
update all the drivers ,i mean all of them, this will take you about an hour.
    update windows ..
Remove all programs not used .
Just have serato dj or virtual dj
update drivers for numark for windows 10
Make sure its the latest version
Don't surf the net .facebook twitter etc.
Follow the optimization of your pc guide.
Put all your music on a external solid state hard drive
Take the time to go through all your music and scan them all for an damaged ones and remove them.

  • OK to jump on the band wagon, I too was having all those issues with popping, latency, and even loading issues. I do have an older laptop probably 8 years old(Come to think of it maybe older). I had decided to upgrade my controller to the new NS7iii, and damn that thing is powerful, so my laptop wouldn't even run it. So honestly, what I did was bought was a very small but powerful pc. I have not had any issue what so ever. I literally put it under my table and use a small and thin 15' monitor.

What I come to realize is that these controllers really put a lot of cpu stress on our computers (mac or pc). I'd suggest looking into it. I have don't 4 events that way and never was worried about popping, latency, or freezing issues anymore.

  • I was told than a desktop pc is a lot more powerful than a laptop,
a desktop pc has more power to play with as it don't have a battery.
If a desktop is alot better ,does anyone have a desktop who can test there ns7ii .as i am thinking about going back to a desktop as i have no problems with space ,i have to keep the laptop plugged in .

  • Yes, I Believe power is the key, going to buy a top of the line Asus this week.
I run video when I DJ at the club and I believe a partial problem is about running out of graphic & virtual memory space.

The lack of power to a USB port is also very key. Once I started to use the USB closest to the power that gave me 30 to 40 more minutes without the issue.

Occasionally wiping all free space also seems to help.
    My current PC Toshiba / Win Pro 7 64 / core i5 / 1TB HD / 8GB..... not cutting it.

3 Hours into DJing at the club this crackling shows up without fail though.
Luckily they have a back up CD player and I play a track on that and restart my laptop and NS7II at midnight.

Fingers crossed, new high powered PC, fresh install of drivers, firmware etc.
    will do the trick!

The are just too many DJ's NOT having this issue.
From all the threads I have read most using either desktops or gaming PC's
seem to be having no issues.

    I will update progress.

2 Years in with this issue!

It really is about the pc and what it can handle... Especially if you go with a high end controller. High end controller = more pc power. (I.e. faster processor, more ram, and a decent graphics card) Here is a pic of my current setup.

  • Update.... For anyone with this issue....

4 solid months without a single issue now.
A few 8-9 hour weddings and nightclub use 3 times a month. At the nightclub I mix videos, scratch, sample, loop, running WiFi and not a hiccup!

It took a gamer laptop to run it smoothly.
    I got an ASUS core i7 / 1TB HD / 16 GB / 4 GB of video memory dump.
I think my old laptop was simply running out of memory dump room, once it was full the crackling & popping showed up.

All is perfect now! Just ordered an NS7III!

    Happy Mixing!
