Why am I experiencing a distortion sound with my NS7II?

Ok, first things first Im on my second NS7ii, my first one died out of no where. I could turn it on but it did not recognize my macbook. Luckily I was able to return it to guitar center and get a new one.

Now on my second ns7ii I seem to have issues with distortion coming from the main XLR output. RCAs seem to be working fine. I was at a gig where I plugged their booth speaker into my main output due to me not being able to use the rca booth output on my ns7ii.

The sound was completely distorted, I attempted to lower my gains down to about the 8/9 oclock position and increase the main output. No matter what I tired the speaker was filled with distortion. My friend used the speaker with is Rane sixty two and had no distortion I am confused as to why this is happening. Please help.

  • Hello,

Thanks for posting! I'd like to help. The latest Mac OS X v3.2.0 audio driver supports both Mac OS X 10.9 and 10.10. The latest Windows v2.9.55 audio driver supports both Windows 7 and 8. Log onto the NS7II product page to download and install the lastest driver for your computer - http://www.numark.com/product/ns7ii.

If you're using a laptop, I always recommend to connect your Numark DJ controller to the USB port closest to your power supply. That port will always draw the most power to your unit. Try a different USB cable. Sometimes a simple thing like a USB cable can play the middle man during these issues. Also, make sure you optimize your computer from my recommended steps above. Exceed the minimum specifications for both the Serato DJ software and your DJ controller.

Lastly, ensure your DJ controller and your entire setup is connected to a properly grounded power surge protector. I've even experienced for myself that if I'm at my gig and the booth has a poor surge protector or outlet, my DJ controller would experience symptoms similar to this.

  • I am running a i5 2.5ghx 2012 macbook pro with 8 gb ram and a 512 ssd on OSX 10.10.1 Yosemite.

The speakers was an active speaker as well, I had no distortion through out the other speakers in the club that was connected into their amp and mixer. Just the booth. I did have better quality when I turned down the gain and upped the master volume but I still could turn the booth speaker up to a respectable level.

Maybe ill try a different outlet with using a surge protector. Ill report back friday and let you know if it was a success or not

  • UPDATE- I noticed my Master volume level on serato was turned all the way up some how and this may have been the cause of the bad audio quality. I reduced the volume to The 12oclock position that should make a difference

  • Hi , Look i have the same problem , i am mixin video fine for 5 hours then appers a distorsion noise i have to closed Serato Dj an open again and its ok again .... Its terrible have this beacuse i dont now when my ns7 II will fail ..... I have a macbook pro core i7 2.9...... osx 10.9.5.. .... 16gb ram ... hdd 1tb ... 1024 gb Intel 4000 ...... help with this please
    • Hello Edwin,

It's very uncommon for a DJ to mix for 5 hours straight, especially video mixing. I'm sure that is putting a toll on your computer when you experience your symptoms. It's not the NS7II that's the issue, it's most likely your computer being worked to the max, especially with video which uses more processing power and RAM. Make sure you always connect your NS7II to the USB port closest to your power supply. That USB port will always draw the most power to your DJ controller.

Update for users having distortin, lower your Master Volume on serato dj. Try to put it at about the 9/10 o'clock position. This should help
