NS7 II Tracks Skipping & Jumping

I've owned the NS7 II since 2013 and I've occasionally experienced tracks randomly skipping and jumping within Serato DJ. I just found this topic on the Serato forums and was wondering if anyone from Numark (tech support) has been in communications with anyone from Serato.

https://support.serato.com/hc/en-us/a...

Are we any closer to figuring out what this issue is? I.E. Too many midi signals being sent back and forth between Serato DJ and the NS7 II?

  • Hello,

Thanks for posting! First, make you're on the latest version of Serato DJ by logging onto https://serato.com/dj/downloads. Make sure your computer is optimized. For information on this, see below. Inside your Serato software under the Setup tab, check off Disable Needle Search. Try that out an see if your tracks still skip.

In the meantime, make sure you optimized your computer from the steps below. I always recommend to try to exceed the minimum specifications for both the Serato DJ software and your NS7II.

If you'r using a MAC, try out the optimizing steps below:
    * Mac Optimization Guide for Serato DJ users using Mac OS X
    * Advanced Mac Optimization for Serato DJ - Video

If you'r using a PC, try out the optimizing steps below:
    * PC Optimization Guide for Serato DJ users using Windows 8
    * Advanced PC Optimization for Serato DJ - Video

If you're using a laptop, I always recommend to connect your NS7II to the USB port closest to your power supply. That port will always draw the most power to your DJ controller. Try a different USB cable. Sometimes a simple thing like a USB cable can play the middle man with these symptoms.

Ensure your DJ controller and your entire setup is connected to a properly grounded power surge protector or power strip. I've even experienced for myself that if I'm at a gig and the DJ booth has a poor surge protector or outlet, my DJ controller would experience erratic behaviors regarding the platters, sound, etc.

It's also very important that prior to DJing, any new songs you added to your song database gets fully analyzed in Serato DJ to ensure smooth and functional playback. If you have a corrupt file in your Serato DJ database, this could cause these symptoms. I recommend deleting any file with a lightning bolt next to it from your Serato database. This means deleting not only from your crate but from your ALL location in Serato DJ. For more information on corrupt files in Serato DJ, check out the links below:

    * Re-encoding corrupt files using iTunes
    * What are corrupt files and how do I fix them?
    * Troubleshooting freezing and crashing while Analyzing Files
    * Troubleshooting crashes

Lastly, before your gig, follow the directions below:

    1. Connect and power on the NS7II
    2. Open Serato DJ
    3. On each deck, fully turn, clock and counter clock wise, the Start and Stop Time knobs prior to DJing. This will ensure that the NS7II is properly communicating with Serato DJ.
    4. As a good practice , we also recommend moving the Pitch Sliders, Crossfader and Channel Sliders up and down prior to DJing. Again, this will ensure that the NS7II is properly communicating with Serato DJ.

If your holding the SHIFT button on the NS7II and move the platter forward, you can replicate this too. Ensure that you're properly utilizing this feature correctly in Serato DJ.

I hope this all helps everyone!

  • My computer has/is been optimized since I've purchased the NS7 II back in 2013 Chris. Been using the same machine since I've owned the NS7 II. (See attached picture for my computer specs)

Here's my problem. Two of the biggest features on this unit (motor on/off and Sync button) are rendered useless during a live performance because the midi messages being sent between the NS7 II and Serato DJ are too confused. This issue has been going on since the NS7 II was released and hasn't been fixed via a firmware update/software update. Why? There is no reason why after 2 years I should be getting this explanation.

"To avoid this, keep the Motors on your NS7II ON and Sync OFF throughout the duration of your set, this will help eliminate the chance of this issue happening."

Also, I'm aware of the instant start for motorized platters when start time set to zero feature. I do this on both sides of the NS7 II every time I fire up Serato DJ. I get the message in the bottom of my Serato DJ tool bar saying, "Instant Start enabled" confirming I did it properly.

And the whole sliding every fader and twisting every knob prior to DJ'ing is ridiculous. You may as well just tell people to do an actual calibration on their NS7 II units prior to DJ'ing every single time.

I also analyze/edit beat grids all my new files before actually playing them. My library doesn't have any corrupt files as well.

  • If you have any further information on this topic I'd love to know!!!! I am experiencing the exact same problems and a few others with this controller!!! It is driving me crazy!!!!!! I have a brand new Mac and my controller is about 4 months old. I have been having the same problems since I bought it and no one including Numark has been able to assist me with this!!! All my friends who use the similar Pioneer controller aren't having any of these issues... None of my files are corrupt as well and I skip at least one song during a 4hr party!!! Thanks for any information you may have!!

  • Terrence,

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I actually had to send my NS7 II in to get serviced last week. (via Guitar Center Pro Coverage) Long story short, I had the NS7 II since they were released (October 2013) and just found out after 2 years of owning it that my NS7 II was a defective! My NS7 II wouldn't successfully complete the calibration process, so Numark informed me my unit was defective! If I wouldn't have asked them how to calibrate my NS7 II, I would have never known!

Serato made a public announcement about this issue last November, but nothing has changed. And more people are having this issue. If this isn't fixed by the time the NS7 III is released I'm going to sell my NS7 II and get something else. Probably a Pioneer DDJ-SZ.

So just got this news from Aaron over at the Serato forums. Chris D. you might want to make a sticky about this. (https://support.serato.com/hc/en-us/a...)

"No, the fix _does_ resolve exactly these limitations. Once the release is public, you _will_ be able to do all these things without needing to be worried about random skipping or jumping :) The issue also affected some users with the NS7.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

    Aaron"

  • As I posted above everyone...

Number 1, make sure your computer is optimized for Serato DJ. For information on this, see my first post above. To avoid this, keep the Motors on your NS7II ON and turn Sync OFF throughout the duration of your set, this will help eliminate the chance of this issue happening. If you really want to use SYNC, then I suggest to only use Simple Sync. There's nothing wrong with your NS7II, like the link you posted says, it's basically due to the platter being ramped up/down and the MIDI messages get confused.
    • Chris no offense, but you're starting to sound like a broken record. I feel like you're insulting our intelligence. We are not some 13 year old kids, we are grown (educated) adults. And some of us actually are a lot more technically inclined than you know. (I am one of those. If you haven't figured that out by all my tech questions/statements.) So could you stop giving us the generic answers right from the manual? Once again you're the subject matter expert when it comes to the NS7 II, so please give it it to us straight.

I can also confirm this, I am an IT specialist at my day job its actually comical to see the same generic post by support here.

My NS7ii Also will randomly jump to the middle of a song for no apparent reason. I never use sync function and my computer is optimized. Its a bug some where and its quite embarrassing if and when that happens live.

I love my NS7ii but with the issues and terrible support I may just end up selling this and going the pioneer route as well.

If you want to keep customers they have to feel like their investment will last and all problems will be address in a truthful manner. With generic answers you push away experienced DJ's and give yourselves a BAD cheap reputation.

No which is drive the demand of your product down as well as the cost because you have no demand for stuff that has known issues.............

    • Please let me know how that goes I had a talk with Chris and will try the "calibration" but If that doesn't work I'm not feeling shipping that huge beast and being with out my equipment for however long. I think if it persists I'll honestly just sale it and buy a pioneer controller.

Honestly the explanation on how it works it's just a problem waiting to happy this can't be dubbed "professional" equipment at that point to me. Maybe for a bedroom or to play on but if my sets are interrupted from hardware issues others are also having its more of a toy to me...........

Hopefully I'm wrong because I really like this unit........

I'll leave you all up to date with my issue as well. .
    • I tried everything Chris recommend. NOTHING HELPED THE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS I HAD!

I just got my NS7 II this past week and so far, so good. How long had you guys had yours before tracks started skipping and jumping?

  • It pretty much started right away. Problem is 85% of the time the controller worked great! When it skipped it was bad! Song would be playing, then it would just skip to end. I had many other problems including controller freezing up to where I had no control whatsoever of the machine, it would just start playing in reverse for no reason, wouldn't link up to my Mac from time to time, and left table would sometimes start playing very slow. When it worked the way it should, I love that controller! Not reliable at all! I hope you have better luck than many of us did..
I used the NS7 for years without a single problem or glitch! Best of luck!
P.S I returned my controller to Numark over a week ago and haven't heard anything! So far customer service is sub par..

  • I just bought the Pioneer SZ yesterday because I fear that no news from Numark isn't good news? After owning the ns711 for less then 6 months, I can't chance this happening again on a party and getting sued!
Numark does not have any answers to all any of the problems, and even if they were to give me a new one, I fear it will have the same problem software.

  • Hello Everyone,

I'm sorry your all having trouble with your NS7II but I can assure that many users who've tried my recommendations have rectified or avoided these symptoms. Like from what the link that was posted above says, it's basically due to the platter being ramped up/down and the MIDI messages get confused. We all are investigating this and Serato hopes to have a fix in a future update of Serato DJ.

Never a less, if your still having issues, Numark wants to help you out! One the perks with Numark support is that you can call into support help you out with your symptoms. Please contact Numark technical support and speak with an agent if my recommendations are not rectifying your symptoms. Log onto http://www.numark.com/support to contact support.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Numark NS7 : Left Channel skipping part of song and plays from beginning and jump....

I scrolled googled Etc. But nothing by far to resolve this before NYE gig. Like every year I lose gig and clubs trust after commiting to them.

What the hell is wrong again with Numark NS7 and this bug causing the track to skip and back and forth on the same track. Right channel has no issues.

HELP me and others in the thread to bypass this bug.

    Thanks and respect!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled NS7 II Tracks Skipping & Jumping on SDJ 1.7.2, 1.7.8, 1.8.2, 1.9.0, 1.9.4, 1.9.5.....

I've owned the NS7 II since june 2015 and I've occasionally experienced tracks randomly skipping and jumping within Serato DJ. I just found this topic on the Serato forums and was wondering if anyone from Numark (tech support) has been in communications with anyone from Serato.

Are we any closer to figuring out what this issue is? I.E. Too many midi signals being sent back and forth between Serato DJ and the NS7 II?

Before ... I was a Pro Pioneer dj and when I saw that they were coming out more and more new products, I decided to part with my cdj 2000. Since that day I came out My Technics SL1200MK5 with my mixing Rane 62 which I do not encounter any problem using Serato Dj whatever version, except that in some place of my performances, the place is sometimes very restricted, because of this ... I needed a controller With priority the feel of vinyl touch !!! So I turned to Numark NS7II in February 2015 and in October, problems began to appear with music jumps and problems slow start of the trays. I reported it to the store in February 2016, but they tried to sack me by saying that the product warranty was only 1 year. I contacted the wholesaler "The Black Box" which my asserted that the product was guaranteed 2 years and not a year. So my ns7II had not been used for several months, also losing on the warranty period. I have 2 Macbook of mid 2012, one bought in June 2014 nine in Darty and one bought in 2016 at the same place and in spite of the optimizations hardware and software the bugs are always present. If Numark made an offer to me by taking over my NS7II by offering a stable product, even if I had to add 200 or 300 euros, I would be willing to do so. Otherwise, the only solution will be to go on another brand, while selling my NS7II at a loss with great regret while remaining frustrated on the quality of Numark products, as I will be in doubt on reliability. But before that I will make videos of the problem while stipulating that this never were solved by not recommending this product range.

    http://community.numark.com/numark/to...

The problem will never be solved !!! Maybe that's why they released the famous NS7III ???

    NS7II driver 3.20 and firmware 1.05.

I use a First Macbook 15" mid 2012, processor i7 Quad core 2.3GHz, 16GB ram qo to 1600mhz, ssd samsung 830 pro series 256GB, a Oyaide usb class S series D +, OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks, "The Buffersize in setup is 5ms". The Macbook has been formatted in june 2016 with a clean installation of the system. I do not know how to solve the problem .

    Second Macbook 13" it's mid 2012, I7 Dual Core 2.9ghz, ssd Samsung EVO 850 500go, 16 go ram 1600mhz, OsX Mavericks.
