NS7ii sound popping, distorting and then dropping out completely

I'll turn it off for a while and sometimes the sound will clear up, but yesterday I couldnt get it to stop. random pops are usually the signal the something bad is about to happen. I recently updated my numark driver last week. I also am up to date on Serator and Virtual DJ. Sound issues happen with both software. So I believe it's my controller.

  • Have you done the Serato optimizations for your computer? Have you adjusted the usb buffer speed, adjustments are made in the set up screen? When it comes to usb port selection, I use the one closest to the charging port. I use to use my usb 3.0 port on the other side of the laptop, and had reoccurring connectivity issues. I now use the usb 2.0, by the charging port as above, and have yet to experience the issue (with one exception: not following start-up procedure.)

  • I have done the optimization. I am going to try switching USB ports tonight. I used to use the closest to power but I was recently told to switch to the front usb port. Yes, this is when the problems began. So I am going to switch back and see if this solves the problem. I sure hope so.

  • Hello Michael,

Thanks for helping out David! Removing the device from MIDI Studio Window (Mac), lowering the Maximum Screen Updates Per Second (Windows & Mac) in Serato DJ and adjust the USB buffer settings, improves the symptoms that you are having, and in some cases completely resolves the issue. See the steps below.

Removing a Device from MIDI Studio (Mac Only)
    1. Open a new finder window and navigate to Applications > Utilities.
    2. Double click Audio MIDI Setup.
    3. Select Window from the top menu and ensure that MIDI Studio is checked.
    4. With the Numark controller disconnected click the Numark USB Audio Device.
    5. Click Remove Device from the top of the MIDI Studio window.
    6. Reconnect your Numark Controller.

Lowering the Maximum Screen Updates Per Second & Increasing USB Buffer Size (Both Windows & Mac)
    1. Open Serato DJ.
    2. Click Setup from the top menu.
    3. Click the Library + Display tab
    4. Adjust the Display slider to 20 or 30. If you still experience clicks and pops after setting to 20 UPS try lowering the slider.
    5. Click the Audio tab
    6. Adjust the Audio slider to 10 or 20. If you still experience clicks, pops and dropouts then set your latency settings to 20.
    7. Close the Setup.

Like David said, lets make sure your computer is optimized. I always recommend to try to exceed the minimum specifications for both the Serato DJ software and your NS7II.

If you'r using a MAC, try out the optimizing steps below:
    * Mac Optimization Guide for Serato DJ users using Mac OS X
    * Advanced Mac Optimization for Serato DJ - Video

If you'r using a PC, try out the optimizing steps below:
    * PC Optimization Guide for Serato DJ users using Windows 8
    * Advanced PC Optimization for Serato DJ - Video

If you're using a laptop, I always recommend to connect your NS7II to the USB port closest to your power supply. That port will always draw the most power to your DJ controller. Try a different USB cable. Sometimes a simple thing like a USB cable can play the middle man with these symptoms.

Ensure your DJ controller and your entire setup is connected to a properly grounded power surge protector or power strip. I've even experienced for myself that if I'm at a gig and the DJ booth has a poor surge protector or outlet, my DJ controller would experience erratic behaviors regarding the platters, sound, etc.

It's also very important that prior to DJing, any new songs you added to your song database gets fully analyzed in Serato DJ to ensure smooth and functional playback. If you have a corrupt file in your Serato DJ database, this could cause these symptoms. I recommend deleting any file with a lightning bolt next to it from your Serato database. This means deleting not only from your crate but from your ALL location in Serato DJ. Fore more information on corrupt files in Serato DJ, check out the links below:

    * Re-encoding corrupt files using iTunes

    I hope this helps!
