I'm having issues with the performance of my NS7II and Serato DJ. I'm experiencing constant USB Dropouts. What should I do?

Hello,
i ́m from Germany and I have a big problem.
My LapTop is a Acer Aspire
2.53 GHz
4GB DDR
Intel core i5
Windows 7 64Bit

I work with the new Numark NS7ii Controller. I can work with it 2 or 3 minutes and then there is no reaction at all buttons and switches on the controller. The songs are playing on and sound comes out at Master Booth and Headphones.

Have someone a solution for this problem. It doesn ́t matter which function i use before there is no reaction. Loop, push Cue buttons, scratch .... suddenly there is no reaction.
I switch off the Controller with the power switch and switch on, all functions are working a few minutes. The same is when I cut and put together the USB connection.

Is this a problem with the controller or the PC????

Please help me fast I need this controller tomorrow.

My new MacBook is on the way to me because of this I have to use my normals windows Laptop. And the old MacBook is ill.

  • the problem is the pc sir,
a similar problem was happening to me,
alothough it's weird because my problem was that I had windows 8, and ns7 ii is not supported by windows 8
don't know why it's happening but switch your computers and you will be fine

  • Hey Philipp, did you get a chance to try the controller with your MacBook?
If you loose connection often you may want to try another USB cable.

  • I’m confused
i tried my controller with 4 different computers and differant cables ( "pro-cables" ). Serato is not supporting AMD-processors !!!
I used: Intel i7 setup, Amd setup and Imac pro...
All the same. USB led blink off and on and controller is freezing.
Helpdesk said it was a loose USB port....?? on all 4 systems??

  • Sometimes if you don't allow Serato DJ to load all the way up; make sure all the crates are loaded up, than turn on the NS7II. This seems to be the source of the problem, in my experience.

    • Hello Sascha,

I don't want to rule out a future option for DVS in the near future but that won't help with your symptoms. If your saying your CPU load isn't maxing out and you've followed my instructions from above, then please record a video of your symptoms and post them here so that I cane examine your dropouts.
    • Hey Sascha, I only use the USB 3.0 connection on my laptop. I don't have any other answers or sugeestions.

  • Hi Chris,

it ́s well known that this is comming.....but I understand that you`ll not comment this.

Fact is just: For me it seems to be an issue within the USB connection.
    What I figured out today:
With the new beta (!) version of serato I was able to mix more than two hours without a freeze. That is not glorius, but a step forward!

What I see now, with the new beta, is that I have often audio drop outs,This is not causing a freeze on the device, what is good, but it ́s more often as it was.

Seems, as I ́ve seen so far, that the NS7II has isues to communicate with serato. Each new version makes differences. Improvements or more issues....it just changes.
The laptop is untouched and meets any requirements...

Therefore my question for a new firmware. It must be something little that causes this, as the device itself is just a dream. Much better as I ́ve ever seen with NI and traktor.

NS7II is, without any accleration, the best controller I ever had.
From a hardware point of view just: DOT.
But there is something wrong with the firmware or the communication between the firmware and the software.

I just like to ask you if there is some new firmware on the road. version 1.0.0.0 tells me: that is the absolut first version at all :)

  • Hello everyone,

Just to help you all out. I highly recommend reading and going through our helpful Numark NS7II - Setup, Optimization, and Feature Overview Guide, to help you with many of the symptoms you've all been experiencing. This guide will help you out.

  • Chris,
Why does your Numark link say Serato isn't supported on Windows 8? Here's Serato's own link with system min's http://serato.com/dj/downloads

  • I’m annoyed
I bought a ns 7 ii this summer and I am having the same problems as discussed in here. I am running a Dell i7 Win 7 Pro 8GM. It seems that most of the people complaining about this problem have pcs. I've only read 1 or 2 people complain about issues with their mac. Personally, I feel that as much as this controller costs, I shouldn't have to engage in technical acrobatics just to use it. I also am disappointed that there has been no fix to this problem or any mention of a fix in spite many users self-diagnosing the problem as being related to the firmware. It seems to me that the flagship controller would have more of Numark's resources dedicated to fixing this problem, and stop recommending increasing the buffer settings, which has been shown to be futile.

Nonetheless, I just want it to work. So I'm contemplating buying a mac (which I swore I'd never do) just for use with my controller. My question is, what specs do I need in a mac that will GUARANTEE my controller will work without popping, clicking, or unresponsive issues? I absolutely refuse to buy a mac that doesn't work on this controller. If it doesn't work, then I'm returning both the controller and the mac. I love the unit. I actually returned a pioneer ddj-sx for this. Don't make me return this one too.

  • Hello All,

Regarding the latest 1.05 NS7II firmware update, the update itself is really simple to do. You must follow directions carefully to correctly update your NS7II. Here are couple key things to remember and do before and after performing the update:

    1. First, make sure you download the correct update from the product page based on your current operating system.

    2. Make sure there isn't a USB or Wireless Bluetooth device connected to your computer while you're performing the update. Only have the NS7II connected.

    3. Make sure there isn't any other program or application open before you perform this update. Close them if they're open. Do not work or browse online in the background while you're performing the update.

    4. I recommend powering on your NS7II after you launch the NS7II Firmware Updater.

    5. Now power on your NS7II.

    6. Check that your USB light on the NS7II is illuminated red before performing the update.

    7. IMPORTANT: Do NOT perform the update if you already have the latest version already installed as shown here:

    8. If you need to perform the update, after this process is done, follow the directions and let the NS7II restart itself.

    9. After the NS7II restarts itself, make sure you see that the USB light is illuminated red.

    10. If so, launch Serato DJ to ensure it connects correctly to the software.

    11. If it does then that's it. You're all set. I hope this helps everybody!
