Can a student self-enroll in an OpenClass course?

Currently students are not able to register themselves in OpenClass. An Administrator must create the users in OpenClass, and an Administrator or Instructor can then enroll the students in a course. Students are sent a welcome email that includes steps to activate their account upon being created in OpenClass.

There is no plan to include student self-enrollment in OpenClass in the near future, however we understand the value of this tool and our technical teams are exploring it as a feature to add to the platform.

  • "Instructors can add a student to their course as long as the Administrator has already created the student in OpenClass"

I conclude that it is not possible just to send students an URL and some form of access key so they can enroll in a course. Or to ask to be enrolled (the instructor could then confirm the enrollment).

It is necessary that someone with Administrator privileges "creates" the student in OpenClass!

I was expecting to be able of accepting students in my course without this administrativa step.
Creating a students could be automatically done by OpenClass the first time a student is confirmed as enrolled in a course.

  • Thank you for your thoughts, Joao. At this time, a student will have to be added to OpenClass by an Administrator before they can be enrolled in a course. There is currently no self-registration option available.

We're sorry to hear this news does not match your expectation but hope you'll consider the OpenClass application as a solution for you and your students.

  • Thank you for your prompt answer.

Is there a way a student can request to be added to OpenClass?
For example, going to some web address in the institutions that makes available the OpenClass platform, and requests to be added to OpenClass and indicating the courses s/he wants to attend.
The administrator can approve its addition with a click.
After the addition of the student, instructors could be sent a message calling the attention that there is a student asking for enrollment.

  • I, too, need students to be able to enroll in classes - and to have the program capable of denying their request if the class is full or they need complete a required course beforehand.

  • Thank you for your input, Gloria! We appreciate your thoughts. Currently we have no timeline for the development of a self-registration tool but will certainly keep the feature in mind as we continue to think through user management in OpenClass.
