Course Templates

It would be fantastic if Open Class allowed courses to be saved as templates for easy course development and creation at future periods in time.

It would also be great if Open Class allowed users to save course templates to a repository for easy distribution to other Open Class users.

    Hi Simon,

Cool idea. What would you see being in the template? You could always create a "Template course" and copy it over and over again to achieve a result like this.

  • You could just create a "template course" and copy it around, which is quite a good work around. I was thinking more along the lines of a workflow such as:

The instructional designer selects an option to create a new course. The LMS presents the instructional designer with the option to create a new blank course or to select from a range of pre-defined templates. The instructional designer is then free to make the appropriate decision.

The content within a pre-defined template could be as diverse as the educational institution deems appropriate. Some common examples in Australia are:

    * A template for an accredited course aligned to an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level. In such cases there are legislative requirements around what information must be provided to all learners.

    * Non-accredited and/or branded courses that are applicable to a small cohort of learners or a specific client

    * An approved course structure aligning with a higher education institute's curriculum

Templates are great for learning institutions that don't have qualified instructional designers working on each course end-to-end. Having such human resources working off a template provides the learning institution's management with some degree of comfort that their learning products will be somewhat uniform and, particularly, compliant.
