Errors in Batch Operations

We are having similar issues. The two administrators who were given accounts were assigned them under a different email address than the students domain. We are getting errors when we try to upload the batch files - domain not found.
Can you give us a contact number to call to fix this?

Thanks,

  • Hi Therese,

We moved this topic because this is a slightly different issue than the one you responded to originally. Your campus is not restricted by domain.

Looking at your batch files, it seems as though you didn't remove the first header line ("user", "create", etc...). Can you try removing that line and reuploading? All of the other lines within your file validated successfully.

You can always select the "Failed Validation" link to find out what might have failed within your file in the future.

Please let us know if that works. Thank you,

    The OpenClass Team

  • This worked. Thank you so much. There was one student who's record did not validate. Could you give me a reason why this would happen?

  • Hi Therese,

We are sorry that we missed your question here. Looking at your file, it looks as though you already have a user with that SIS ID associated to someone in your campus. SIS IDs and emails have to be unique within the system, and once you create an account with one address, you cannot change it.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi Therese,

We hear you have more questions regarding this issue. Please make sure to use the forum to ask additional questions.

The record in question that failed validation had an SIS ID associated with another user already. We are assuming that there are not two students with the same SIS ID, but maybe the original one that was created has the incorrect one. We can take you through, step by step, how to identify and fix this issue.

    1. When in the batch operations tab, select the link “Failed Validation” to see the errors within your file. Scroll down to the line that says “VALIDATION FAILURE” - in your particular file, it’s line 89. Make note of the SIS ID in question.

    2. Next, we will need to figure out who has that ID assigned to their account already in the system. Navigate to the “People” tab with the Admin area, and use the “Export People” link in the bottom right hand corner to get a list of all of your users and their information in your system.

    3. Once you open your export of your “People” list (usually in Excel), you can use the “Find” feature to quickly search for the SIS ID already used. In an effort to not broadcast your student’s personal information in our forum here, when we exported this, we found it on line 119.

    4. If this SIS ID is incorrect for this user, go back to the “People” tab and search for this user. Select “Edit” and modify the SIS ID as needed. If the SIS is incorrect in your original file for the new user, simply update the line with the correct SIS ID.

Just a reminder, the SIS ID is the unique identifier on your campus used in the Batch Operations file. The email address in the OpenClass system is our unique identifier across our system. These two items have to match in order for the file to validate, or if you are creating a new user with the batch tool, the SIS ID has to be unused on your campus.

We hope this helps. Have a good weekend,
    The OpenClass Team
