I’m Frustrated

Open Class Concerns, Issues, Problems, and Wish List

I have finally convinced my school that Open Class is a great solution. I am in my first 3 days of using the LMS platform and I have some significant concerns. Some of which have already been addressed and part of that concern is that no changes have been made in quite some time.

1) No logout button. Students need to be able to logout.
2) Lack of User Control
a) School can only give me limited access
b) Current access prevents me from deleting classes
c) Adding students
d) Changing Color Schemes

3) Lack of functionality
a) Cannot create a new Main Level and then move already created level as a sub level.
b) Importing tests in word format at a bare minimum
c) Ability to move around menus. (ex. I would like to see course content on the left vertical menu but things like the gradebook, dropbox (Submissions), e-mail, calendars and doc sharing I would rather see on top in a horizontal menu. It would look better and create less noise on the page for students with technology difficulties.

Also when creating exams you can enter about 5-10 questions multiple choice before the scripts stop running and the page has to be refreshed. Also I think it would be a lot easier to have a quick edit for point data for each question as this is most commonly changed in my situation.

  • Joe,

Thank you so much for the feedback on the platform. We will take this list of enhancements and hand them over to our product team for prioritization. The team will look at these requests and add them to an existing backlog to be worked at a future time.

    Thanks,

I would have expected a more in depth reply and find myself a little shocked by the fact that you are just brushing my comments under a rug. Maybe there is another LMS that I can convince my school to go with. You see I have been working diligently to get them to adopt this. First you need different user and administration levels. Second you need to give the instructor the ability to do more. I can code just enough to get me by and what i don't know I can learn. Not to mention my co-worker is a programmer. If you guys can't handle the workload maybe you should allow outside parties the ability to edit their own workspaces.
    • I apologize if I am coming off peremptory but we live in real time. Can you point me in the location of your updates and news releases on what is being worked on so I know what to expect and I can give my IT and County a timeline. As it stands I don't believe this could be released to all the teachers in the county. This LMS is incomplete. While I do love the interface and it is very similar to the one I used in college it is severely lacking in many areas. I am open to recommendations. The only access options are Teacher and County Administrator and you know they won't give me access to the county side.

  • Joe,

We are sorry that you felt that your comments were being swept under the rug. That was not the intention at all. I believe we could have been more clear as to what will happen with your comments.

Currently these items that you recommend do not exist in the OpenClass Platform. Traditional action would be to notify our product team about these types of requests so that they can look into them, and decide which ones will be worked on and in which order they will be worked on.

We have passed your list on to the product team and they are aware of your wish list. Some of these items have been requested by others which helps raise the awareness of them.

Going forward you will be able to find out about releases from our Knowledge base that is in the OpenClass system. Within the Knowledge base we have a new feature section which points out all of the new releases, and should tell you when the features you have requested here are released.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have future feature enhancement requests, and we will get them on our product teams list ASAP to be added to the system in the future.

Thank you for your support with the OpenClass platform.
