Uploading Presentation

Hi,

I want to upload a powerpoint presentation in my course. I want it to be shown immediately (converted to HTML or not) when the course menu item is opened.

Is this possible? If so, what course menu item will I use? It seems that the Uploaded Content doesn't support .ppt or .pptx file type.

Thanks.

  • The 'Uploaded Content' item does support PowerPoint, although admittedly, it does not look pretty. You will need to create an Uploaded Content item to add a PowerPoint. After the item is created, click the 'Modify Page' tab in the upper right-hand corner of the Uploaded Content frame and select 'Upload MS Office File'. This will allow you to select the file you wish to include.

You can also upload a PowerPoint by saving it as a PDF first. This looks much better in the frame than uploading a .ppt or .pptx file, but of course if your PowerPoint includes animation or sound, it will not play in a PDF. You will create an 'Uploaded Content' item to include your PowerPoint as a PDF as well.

In the spirit of leveraging our relationship with Google, we'd like to offer you yet another alternative. Google Slides (aka Google Presentations) is a pretty awesome tool and the slides look slick in OpenClass. You can import your PowerPoint slides into Google Slides and then embed the presentation in OpenClass using the html editor. You would create a standard content item to accomplish this.

As a note, our team is aware of PowerPoint's lackluster display in OpenClass. We are looking at ways to improve our handling of Microsoft Docs in the future.
