Problem Logging In After Installation

I'm having an issue logging in after the OpenVBX install. The install completed but when I try to login with the account created, it doesn't redirect me and in the URL I get: http://localhost/openvbx/auth/login?r...

I'm guessing something is up with my web server configs but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot. There are no errors messages on the login page, it just keeps redirecting me back to it like the session isn't getting set.

Note: I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.

  • Hey Ahanson,

Are you getting any notifications saying username or password incorrect? Have you tried resetting your password?

  • There are no error messages and I added logging to the application and found that the login is correct and I'm making it through after_login_completed() and hit the end of it where it does return redirect('devices');. I'm not sure where it goes from there yet, but I added logging and found it hits the login index() and fails on the conditional check for $this->session->userdata('loggedin'). So it appears that my session data is lost after a redirect.

My guess is that I don't have all of the necessary apache mods enabled, but I don't know which one.

  • This seems to be an Apache/PHP config issue running it on Ubuntu (10.04). I installed it on CentOS and got it up and running. I'm still trying to figure out what's causing the problem on Ubuntu though.

  • Hi Adam,

Just wanted to let you know that I'm experiencing the same problem. I'm on a Mac running a pretty standard MAMP setup.

I also tried setting up your .76 installation, but that did not help. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help you debug the issue.

I've got the same problem. Did some debugging and the only thing I've found is a debug message from session helper: 'A session cookie was not found.'
Debugged the $_COOKIE array and didnot find any session id. Any ideas what could it be?

Hey all; Check you error logs. If you see an 'Skipping unexpected URL pattern:' its probably the URL you have defined in your Twilio account. Twilio is assuming a lot here.

Check out the parseIncomingPhoneNumber() function in OpenVBX/models/vbx_incoming_numbers.php

You will need to roll your own version to make this work.

If you're on on linux, make sure /etc/hosts contains an entry for your local openvbx domain.

    Add this line:

  • I’m caffeinated
My problem bears the same symptoms -- hoping my additional details might help solve this.

I initially set up OpenVBX 1.0.3 (the upgrade tanked my old DB structure so I did a fresh install to a brand new DB)

The only real "customization" I did is install this in the directory mydomain.tld/VBX/

Periodically, I log in and it redirects me from:

    https://mydomain.tld/VBX/flows/edit/4...

    TO

    https://mydomain.tld/flows/edit/4#flo...

This gives me an error page -- because that page doesn't exist. I tried tweaking with any !-f or !-d in the .htaccess. I was getting errors in the log for not having a favicon.ico (I was gonna be annoyed if THAT was causing a redirect)... but alas. Nothing fixed it.

The odd part about it is that I used it all afternoon without a problem. It started as soon as I created a flow with the default conference plugin (the one that comes with OpenVBX).

I ended up moving that plugin to /tmp but no fix.

Final solution that worked for me -- creating a CNAME and putting this at a subdomain. It seems that this problem doesn't haunt me if the base domain is in the root of the FQDN. ( vbx.mydomain.tld/ as opposed to mydomain.tld/VBX )

    PHP 5.1.6
    Apache2.2.3
    OpenVBX 1.0.3

I was able to stop these by commenting this out in my .htaccess:

    #ErrorDocument 404 /fallback/rewrite.php

Still not a fix -- but I'm up and running (non-SSL) via subdomain. The main ssl domain is still redirecting from https://mydomain.tld/VBX/flows to https://mydomain.tld/flows

  • Kevin,
Thanks for taking the time to debug the issue. We'll take a look at VBX running in a sub-directory to make sure that its not a global issue and let you know if we find anything of consequence.
    • view 2 more comments
    • Also, can I ask how the upgrade "tanked my old DB structure"? What version were you upgrading from?

We also recently put out version 1.0.4 which provide some host name stabilization primarily aimed at Nginx servers but that might help with overall server compatibility. Would you be willing to try this version out and let me know if it helps your situation at all? This definitely sounds like its an issue with server config and how the host names are being processed.

In the new version you could also try hard-coding the full domain in to the $config['server_name'] variable.
    • Old one was OpenVBX • v0.90 r47

I did a mysqldump before upgrade and saved the directory untouched -- so I can restore it to help troubleshoot upgrade problems too if necessary. I'm wondering now if it was the subdirectory issue on that as well.

The symptom of "tanked the database" was actually just that the instance stopped working with the old .90 code (after upgrade) but the /install URL wouldn't work.

I hope I got that right -- If that doesn't make sense, I can dig out the pristine archive and do it again... but the failure of the /install URL (mine would have actually been /VBX/install) makes me think it was the redirect thing before I even noticed it.

  • I had this same issue. After some research I found that I was able to authenticate, but before the OpenVBX application ever opened, there was a reference to a script in the section that was causing a 302 redirect to the logout function. In my case, it was caused by a call to mod_substitute in my .htaccess file, but I suspect that any broken link in your header might cause this issue. A good way to debug this issue is to open your developer tools, go to the "Net" or "Network" panel and hit the "Persist" or "Preserve log upon navigation" button before you try to login. You can then follow the trail of requests until you find the 302 that's killing your login process.

It sounds as if you're trying to install on GoDaddy or a host that sets itself up similarly. Check out the install instructions linked to below for installing on GoDaddy and let me know if that takes care of the issue.

  • What's up? I found this thread while doing a search for what I believe is the exact same problem!

I'd never really had a problem logging in to my OpenVBX installation until recently. Now, when I go to the directory folder where I have it installed, I can't login, because I'm completely redirected to another page. I get this in the browser:
    http://www.MyDomain.com/Directory/aut...
(I have Wordpress on my TLD)

Further, when I try to make any calls or send an SMS to one of my numbers/flows that's in my OpenVBX installation, I get an error notice on Twilio that it returned the http status code 404.
So I can't even get to it directly.

If anyone knows how to overcome this problem, I'd really appreciate it!
I'm on Hostgator. Business plan. With an SSL.

    Thanks!!

Oh!! Wordpress does some mod-rewrite magic. If your WordPress is on the same domain in the main TLD... it might be redirecting a link it doesn't recognize?

I *always* put wordpress into a subdir -- something like /wp/ for this reason. Check for a file called (with the dot in front) .htaccess file in the root dir of your TLD. That file likely has some redirection for WordPress.

You can safely change that .htaccess to another name like... _htaccess. It will likely (temporarily) break some function of your WordPress site -- but it will help troubleshoot VBX. If you move/rename that file and VBX works... well, then that's a good starting point for "what do I do next"

AND the one for the OpenVBX install (one at a time, of course),
and it had no effect, dammit!

I've had this WP on there for a few years now,
and I've also had the OpenVBX install on there for well over a year,
and have never had this problem before.

I would say that I think another possibility might be the recent upgrade of Wordpress to v3.5 may have caused some sort of redirection issue.

However, I have another installation of OpenVBX on another site, and have the exact same problem.... and that one is NOT Wordpress! (But it is on a subdirectory).

    Uuuggh! This is frustrating.

    Thanks,
    Tony

  • I’m too tired to think of anything creative to type here.
If you have the patience to do so, I've resorted in the past to the "scrap it and start from scratch" method. At least 6 times, I've moved /vbx/ to /vbx_old/ and started over again with a brand new install -- manually importing my flows, etc. There is an import / export flow available, but it somehow carried over a variable that caused the flows to fail. I ultimately have ended up rebuilding it from scratch on the newest build. It's really not all that bad.

Random caveats that have screwed me up in the past:

Time zone set in /etc/php.ini (no, seriously... it didn't match the symptoms at all, but it screwed up a BUNCH of stuff in OpenVBX). I'd not have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.

Plugins / widgets installed that were broken or broke-ish also seemed to give me intermittently bad behavior.

And yes -- the directory topic at hand now. I've resorted to just using a subdomain instead. My current install is at openvbx.mydomain.com instead of mydomain.com/vbx/. If you're going to start from scratch, I'd suggest trying the subdomain angle. Your host should support it for free -- but "should" doesn't always mean "does". That said, it "should" work. I "should" be rich. Etc, etc...

  • Hey GoKev,

Man - thanks for your suggestions!
Yeah, I think I'm probably going to have to do that - just re-do the whole bloody thing. 'Cause nothing is working any more.

And I think the sub-directory suggestion is also good.
I'll get to it within the next couple of days.
Hopefully, all goes well, and hopefully I don't have any of those problems that you've had in the past.

    Take care & thanks again,
    Tony

  • UPDATE: Yeah, I had to scrap & start over, like GoKev said.
I also took his advice & installed the fresh version of OpenVBX in a subdomain.
    (ex: www.OpenVBX.MyDomain.com)
So far, everything is working perfectly.

It just took me a little bit of time to reconstruct everything - the flows, adding all my plugins (one at a time, so I could be sure about not having any problems).

But it's all done & it's all good. For now. I just hope it stays that way for a long time!

Just thought I'd come back & let you know, fwiw.

  • I’m determined
Has anyone managed to note what they are doing immediately before this lockout happens? Are you installing plugins? Did you upgrade OpenVBX or something else?

I'm reviewing some installer/upgrade oddities and would love some insights.

  • I just upgraded to the latest version and now I am locked out completely, tried the reset password, tried the godaddy version of the install. I am on mediatemple.net not sure if there is an issue with that at all, but my login worked before I made the upgrade.

    Any ideas>>

Made sure this was all in place...

OpenVBX does not function properly on GoDaddy without Mod Rewrite. Make sure that root directory of your OpenVBX install contains the .htaccess file that was distributed with OpenVBX. If not, copy the htaccess_dist file to .htaccess.

Add this to the bottom of OpenVBX/config/config.php:

    $config['uri_protocol'] = 'REQUEST_URI';
    $config['index_page'] = '';
If you're still having issues at this point, modify the IfModule mod_rewrite.c section of your .htaccess file to be the following:

    RewriteEngine ON

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?$1 [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization},L,QSA]
    ErrorDocument 404 /fallback/rewrite.php

  • Just upgraded. When I click on continue to inbox it goes back to looks like I need to upgrade your database. When I click on upgrade it shows me continue to inbox.
    Over and over.
