4-digit PayPal code... missing

  • Question
  • Updated 12 months ago
Hi. I am new to PayPal, and I am wondering why it is taking so long to get the code? And can PayPal send it to my mail? Because the 3-4 days I was supposed to wait passed and I am still searching my e-mail and looking at my account for the 4-digit code... but still nothing. And finaly, where can I find the card statement on the PayPal site.
Thank you for your time.

Hi mephysto-

The 4 digit code will appear as a transaction line on your credit or debit card statement, not in an email. This is to confirm that you, as the account holder, have access to the financial records that you put on file with PayPal.

You would check for a $1.95 charge on your credit card statement from PayPal (refunded to you once you enter the code) and the 4 digit code will appear with the charge.

Thanks,
PayPal Jason

Hi Jason

Thank you for the answer. But now I have another question... PayPal charged me three times, but only one code worked. This means that the other two charges are on me?
Thank you for your time.

At least your issue was resolved.

I've been haggling with PayPal via e-mail the past 2 days, going around in circles. And I've just about had it.

I never saw the PayPal code on my online activity nor the bank statement I received on the 25th of April. And I tried to clarify this with a several idiots that answered my e-mail so far but with no luck. The charge posted on the 4 April and cleared 7 April 2009. No code...statement received 25 April... no code. What's the deal?

Hi Michael-

In some countries, PayPal requests identity confirmation via a 4 digit code tied to a credit card statement, where a number will appear with a $1.95 US charge. For countries with bank account capability, identity confirmation is accomplished by the sending of two small random amounts to the bank account. Upon receipt of those amounts, the PayPal account holder enters these totals in their account, not a code number.

I am unable to tell based on your posting if your issue is with confirming a 4 digit code from adding a credit card or if you were expecting a code number related to adding a bank, which would not be the case as the random deposit amounts would serve as the proof the account holder has access to the financial instrument.

Please clarify as this may help troubleshoot your situation further.

Thanks,
PayPal Jason

As you should know, a 1.95 USD charge only applies to credit/bank card confirmations whereas sending two small amounts to confirm a bank account will not amount to more than 1.00 USD. C'mon! You're just about as useless as the idiots I've been going back and forth with via e-mail are.

I'm in the UNITED STATES... I was trying to confirm my credit/bank card... the FOUR DIGIT code never showed on the statement received on the 25th of April. Now they're wanting me to confirm it again so I can eat another 1.95 USD charge.

Your system for confirming credit/bank cards absolutely SUCKS!

Oh...another thing! My wife had a good point.

Why can't the 6 digit authorization number in the transaction (or at least the last 4 digits) be used as a credit/bank card confirmation number?

The transaction showed up as this:
PAYPAL IN 402-935-7733 CA 1.95
000000000317741

I have the same problem and I am very surprised by the answer of PayPal Jason:

("You would check for a $1.95 charge on your credit card statement from PayPal (refunded to you once you enter the code) and the 4 digit code will appear with the charge. ")

So the code will appear once I enter the code!!??? What is this for kind of absurdity?

Hi Frank-

The code shows up on the charge line. You will see a charge from PayPal for $1.95 with a 4 digit code preceeding it on your statement. Upon entering the 4 digit number into PayPal, you get the $1.95 posted to your PayPal balance.

Thanks,
PayPal Jason

Jason...

What you fail to realize is... not all credit card/bank card companies display this information in the transaction detail. In my case...only the company and the confirmation number showed.

It wasn't until I called the finance company, to get the transaction in more detail, that I was able to find out what the FOUR DIGIT CODE was.

Like I said... your system for confirming credit/bank cards sucks. And your customer service absolutely sucks to the gilt.

I'll reiterate, I did get the code but not until after I contacted the finance company to look into the transaction in more detail.

This is for those of you who confirm your credit/bank cards with PayPal and receive no 4 digit PayPal code (example: 2807*PAYPAL) in the transaction detail.

If the 4 digit code doesn't appear on your statement or transaction history, then you must call the bank or company that issued your card. They can call up the transaction and provide you with the code that was embedded within.

Don't eat anymore of these senseless charges. Just call your credit/bank card issuer after the transaction has cleared (usually within 72 hours).

Hi All,
I had the same problem and I had entered my 4-digit code three times (but I had not realized what did this code mean and entered all numbers consisting of 4 figures on my card), but no luck:( So then I found out that MasterCard did not have 4-digit code, instead 3-digit code! What can I do in this situation?

the Paypal Code cannot be found in the your master card. But it is in the bank card statement.
Anyway, just try to e-mail the costumer service of the bank where you avail your card then ask them to send to you the 4-digit Paypal Code that you need. However, they will send to you the informations that you must fill it up. Then after 24 hours, they will send to you via e-mail the number that you need.
I tried this already and it worked so I am suggesting it to you..
Thanks!

Is it possible to get the 4 digit code via phone? and if the 4 digit code does show up online, will it be under "Past Transactions?", because i use Walmartgift.com to check the balance on my Walmart Visa Giftcard, but i'm doubting the 4 digit code will show up at WalmartGift.com

PayPal Jason doesn't know how to answer the question clearly and user-friendly. He needs to consider as a normal person who doesn't know anything about what is statement, where to find, how to get. As long as he said many things, it makes people more confused and lost!

Let's make clarify and short to the point!

Please answer the following:

1. Can I check the code at email or at paypal.com?
(None of those. Need to check at your credit card statement inquiry through your company's website otherwise ask from your company)

2. What is the card statement and how to get that?
(Card statement is the transaction results that you did and you have to check at your bank/company only. It can't be checked on paypal website)

3. What kind of email or information will be sent to us regarding that 4 digits code so that we can know distinctly?
(You will get one email, with subject link and confirm your card,as acknowledgment email that confirms you that you can check at your company's website or transaction statement for 4 digit code.)

Example: On your company statement web page;
At your statement inquiry result, you will see like this

Date________Merchant_______________Currency___Foreign Spending
05/07/2009___4211PAYPAL--*EXPUSE_____USD_________1.95

Then you can fill that number infront of PAYPAL>> 4211 is the 4digit code to confirm.

I hope every one get no more confused and lost!

Sadly, paypal also doesn't explain simply how to clarify to satisfy all current and potential paypal customers while almost every new customer getting lost!

Best regards :)

HI Supafly92994-

PayPal will have charged the card $1.95 US or an international equivalent. Check your credit card statement for the line with the charge. There is a four digit number on that line.

Enter that number in your PayPal account, as this confirms you have access to the financial records for the card on file.

The charge amount will then be refunded to your PayPal balance.

Also, in the future, please start a new thread for your questions. This keeps all previous posters from being copied on the response to the question about your account.

Thanks,
PayPal Jason

You can find the 4 digit code when you go to your statement, which is the website that issued the card. By that, I mean if you have the card, look on the back or the package thing that it came in, and there is a website on it. Type that website in a search engine or google, and click whichever one's correct. On that site (for example I used I think vistacard.net or something like that.), it will say enter your card number and the code (not the 4 digit code used on paypal). Enter it, then do whatever information you have to fill in, then look for the transactions on the page. It will say Paypal transactions or something similar, and on there it will have the code. Then use that code on Paypal, and that's it.

I have a question: I tried purchasing an item from eBay, and the seller only allowed PayPal, so I linked my credit card to the PayPal account. They sent me the e-mail that sadi the code will come in 2-3 days, on my statement. After I get that code, will I be able to purchase my product normally?

Hi Leigh-

The rules for having a verified account differ from country to country, but if your country doesn't have bank account confirmation, providing the code from your credit card statement to your PayPal account should lift the credit card sending limit in place.

Hi Eskild-

PayPal wants to confirm that you have access to the credit card on file with PayPal. Therefore, the four digit code appears alongside a $1.95 charge from PayPal on your credit card statement.

In the future, please begin a new thread if you have a question, as that keeps all other individuals in the thread from being copied on your account specific response.

Thanks,
PayPal Jason

Hi noelvy522-

No, as mentioned above, the 4 digit code appears on your credit card statement so that we can confirm you are the owner of the card that was put on file with PayPal.

In the future, please begin a new thread if you have a question to keep other posters from being copied on the response.
