My paypal refund on temporary hold...

Hi There,

I had a dispute with a company selling goods/software through their website (netmovies.com) that didnt work. It looks like I have been refunded my £27.45 by this company but the status of the refund is showing "temporary hold". What does this mean? I have closed the dispute but does this mean I won't get my £27 back? Please advise?

Hi Tanya-

You may want to check your mailbox (or your bulk / spam email box if you have an aggressive spam filter) for a note from PayPal. I have a situation similar to the one you describe on your account because my refund came from a bank account instant transfer purchase. The text, pulled from the email I received notes the following:

Temporary Hold Information: A temporary hold has been placed on funds that were returned to your account because you used Instant Transfer to fund the original payment. The funds from this payment cannot be released until they have arrived from your bank account, which usually takes 3-4 business days.

Essentially, because the funds take a few days to move from bank account to PayPal, the system is still in the process of getting them to your PayPal balance.

If your circumstances do not involve a bank account, please let me know.

Thanks for the info, that has clarified things. One more thing to ask see when I get this refund back will it show in my paypal account balance or does it just clear in my bank account - ie not paypal balance? How will I know this temporary hold has been taken off? Will the status show in my paypal account. Thanks

Hi Tanya-

Bank payments return to your PayPal balance. You can click on the transaction details for the refund to see the expected length of time it takes for the transaction to clear. Mine, for example, currently shows a status of "Placed" and if I select the Details link, it shows the status and an explanation of the length of clearing time.

I'm having the same problem only when I click details, it doesn't show an explanation or anything.
