Paypal Payment on "temporary hold". Please help.

On 15th July I sold a website on digital point forums for $460.

The buyer sent me the credit card payment of $460 via paypal and i accepted it. After receiving the payment i transferred the domain and website to the buyer.

Next day i received an email from paypal saying that the payment has been selected for review and they have opened an investigation. Currently the payment is on temporary hold.

They suggested not to ship the item until the payment is cleared. But i have already transferred the website and domain to the buyer.

I replied to the inquiry with the link to the sale thread and positive feedback by buyer.

I have contacted the buyer and he is ready to help in any way possible.

Can somebody help me. How long will it take to resolve ?

Hi Freakitude-

Please email me at PayPalJason@ebay.com with the email address associated with the PayPal account in question. I will let you know how to get in touch with someone regarding the specifics of the hold.

Thanks,
PayPal Jason

I also have this problem. I've replied to all the info, and the status shows PayPal has reviewed it - but the $ is still being held.

Don't count on getting your money back. I just hope for your sake there were no funds in your Paypal account, always withdraw any funds to your bank ASAP.

Paypal sucks, I'm sick of their slow transfers and bogus temporary holds. Each day Paypal holds onto your money they get interest, this is all just a scam to make more money, just like their new secret fee hikes. I'm closing my account.

Paypal has a hard on for holding payments. It is the easiest way for eBay/Paypal to have an interest free line of credit while they hold money that is not theirs.

If you look at eBay's earnings you can make an educated guess as to how much money flows through Paypal for auctions. Since ~5% of their sellers are subject to their hold (me included), and I've have had every single buy-it-now auction held. You can make an estimate that at any given time Paypal may be holding approx $500mil $1bil USD on behalf of eBay.

This is a pretty spectacular thing. They have access to money without it ever hitting their balance sheet as a liability, and they can use it for whatever they please. Imagine having an unlimited line of credit, which is interest free, that never appears on your credit report.... that is what eBay is doing. They have a massive liability, yet it never appears on any of their SEC filings as such.

I hate eBay. I hope they rot.

I bought game points on the 19th of June through Paypal and everything went fine. On the 25th of June I bought them again and now Paypal has a hold on the transaction. I have emailed 3 times and have not gotten a response from them at all.
What gives them the right to hold your money and then ignore any communication? Everything I read about temporary holds says about Ebay and positive feedback. Well that does not help me when this is not an ebay transaction.
I am never going to do any business through Paypal again. I am also going to warn my friends, with whom I recommended Paypal to, to use something else for online payments.
This is bad business practice. A large company like that who ignores their customers should be made responsible for their actions. If I ignored my customers and held their money with no excuse and no communication, I would be out of business. Maybe this is what needs to happen with Paypal!

After over 10 years I am closing my Paypal account, thats right over 10 years been a customer. I sold a brand new Iphone last week, they said they are holding the funds until the buyer leaves positive feedback well they have long since done that and still funds held, according to them they will hold until July 14th WTF!! I sold something, sent it buyer is enjoying it and I dont have any money for it. This has got to be borderline criminal. I have contacted my local DA. They have no reason to be holding my money I have had an account with EBAY and PAYPAL for a long, long time!!

Here's a tip:

Don't EVER use Paypal for any transaction. I can guarantee you that you will never get the money due to you, consider it a loss. Paypal can close your account at anytime, for any reason. Any money that is in your account is theirs by default. Paypal is NOT a bank, they are a private corporation screwing people over by the thousands. The only reason I know that is because a similar story happened to me as well, and I was a loyal customer for 10+ years.

I actually lost out on about $350 through a refund because of something that paypal screwed up. And they wouldn't do anything to help me about it. Haven't been so pissed at a website before.
