How can I get rid of a table border?

  • Question

I've played with the settings of the table, and set borders = "0". The html source says this: (I took out the < and > in case they messed up this message)

table width="60%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" align="left"

Yet, PBwiki still displays a black line around the table.

Any suggestions?

I can only think of one method that might work. Try copying the table code and pasting it into our HTML plugin.

That may get rid of the border, but it will also make it more difficult to edit next time around.

The table border is there because those properties are controlled by the CSS of each individual PBwiki skin. The most effective method I found is this:

-------------------

1. If you are a premium user with CSS support, put this line in your wiki.css file:

#displaycontent table.borderless tr td { border:0 !important;}

If you AREN'T, you can cheat (a little), and put this in your sidebar in a raw HTML plugin:

<style>#displaycontent table.borderless tr td { border:0 !important; }</style>

2. Go into the source of any table and a) make sure that borders are set to 0, and b) add a "borderless" class to it, like so:

<table width="200" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1" border="0" class="borderless">

-------------------

Note that the 1st step is only necessary for the first time ever. After that, the class will be set, and only step 2 is necessary to get rid of the borders.

Thanks a bunch! That works, but seems silly that I have to go that route. Why have an option for specifying the border width if PBWiki doesn't listen to it?

I imagine that it's probably related to the WYSIWYG editor that the PBwiki1.0 Point and Click Editor is based on as some legacy feature. I've been told that a lot of improvements are coming up in 2.0, so I'm hopeful that this can be addressed.

We're still working out the border issue, however, you can also make the border white, so it doesn't show up. This is done in Cell Properties, I believe.

Note from a related thread - Cell properties only works in Firefox, it's still borked in IE. Here's the line of code for a table from one of my wikis:

< td style="border-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); background-color: rgb(233, 242, 245);" >

In this example, the border color translates to white, and the background color to the light blue color of the standard PBwiki background.

Best of luck!

When you visit your table properties menu now, you'll see that there is a "Has Border" checkbox. Just uncheck this box if you'd like to remove borders from your table.

use css: table {border-collapse: collapse; border-style: hidden}
