Has your firm collected any data relative to the average credit hours for courses in the EMBA curriculum and how courses are graded?

Has your firm collected any data relative to the average credit hours for courses in the EMBA curriculum and how courses are graded? I've spoken with several schools and found that many are either grading courses or a combination of graded and Pass/No Pass courses. Do you have any information pertaining to what employers expect if they are sponsoring a student?

  • Historical Measures

The Executive MBA Council previously collected information on credit hours some time ago, but not course grading nor employer expectations.

We searched the report archives of the Membership Program Survey and we found that this question was last asked in 2004:

B10. Please enter the number of credit hours required for this program.

This question was no longer measured after that year since the number of credit hours reported varied significantly among regions due to measurement error, specifically with the understood definition of ‘credit hour.’

    Current Measures

These are the closest measures currently being collected related to credit hour:

B8. Based on the last graduating class, how many of the total in-class hours (actual 60-minute hours) were spent in elective courses for the entire program? [MANDATORY]

B9. Based on the last graduating class, how many instructional in-class hours (actual 60-minute hours) were spent in non-elective courses? [MANDATORY]

F5. How many instructional in-class contact hours are required of faculty for a typical course? [OPTIONAL]

H2. Please estimate how many distance learning (e.g., PowerPoint with voiceover, podcasts, webinars, etc.) contact hours (actual 60-minute hours) are delivered either synchronously or asynchronously. [MANDATORY]

    Future Measures

If you would like to suggest future questions to be included in the EMBA Council Membership Program Survey or our MBA Lifecycle Surveys, please put forward each question as a new 'idea' in this Get Satisfaction platform -- here are related articles on how to do this:
