I’m not happy at all and at my rope's end!

Playlists-how do I get them on my MP3 player?

So far I'm hating Songbird-I can't get my playlists to download to my MP3 player. This whole system/program is not user friendly for someone who's not savvy with add-ons and converting m3u files to mp3 files or wmv files to mp4 files. This is very frustrating and I hate this program. My friend's iPod program is SO much easier and user friendly and I should have just bought one of those instead. This is what I need to know-I've looked everywhere and found add-ons to turn mp3 files to m3u but I need my m3u playlists converted to mp3 so I can download them to my mp3 player instead of just having massive overload of random songs. I've even tries setting up just a regular playlist in Songbird but it doesn't transfer over to my mp3 player either-this is very frustrating and I'm about to my limit with this

Songbird is not a pile of s..t, but it is surely a very complex software with many features, so, yes, it may not be as user-friendly as other (simpler) programs. A complex software requires a user that can handle it.

Regarding the initial problem, i don't really understand it. You can't convert mp3 to m3u or the other way round, because the first is an audio file format and the latter is a playlist file format.

If you want to transfer a playlist from Songbird to your player, you create a playlist in songbird, go to your device options and tell songbird to sync that playlist to your device.
Make sure your device is supported by songbird (see: http://getsongbird.com/gadgets/) and you have mtp mode turned on.

If it is a Philips related problem, once again, this is not the ideal place for Philips support. If you're looking for help with your Philips device or with the Philips Songbird application, you can contact Philips support at http://www.philips.com/support.

  • I’m not happy to say the least
I have a Phillips Go Vibe which is why I have Songbird in the first place. When I loaded the player on to my comp that's the program that it uploaded.
I have an add on that's supposed to sync my playlists but it only recognizes my Library as a valid playlist even though I've created several playlists in Songbird and even imported playlists from iTunes.
So at this point I have no option but to agree with James.
And as far as your comment concerning how a complex software should have a user that can handle it I don't think anyone should pay $50 for something that can't already be ready to rock and roll when its loaded up. If Phillips can't design their own software more user friendly then they maybe don't need to be selling it to anyone but computer geeks and nerds in the first place and need to remove themselves from the market cause iPod/iTunes has them beat by a mile. And besides this was a gift and I'm wondering why I ever wanted one of these things in the first place. They're more trouble then they're worth. So thank you, LeMirque, for your very unhelpful comment.

  • Your problem is related to Philips Songbird not to the community edition of Songbird. So, please go and get support from the right place: http://www.philips.com/support, as indicated to you by LeMirque.

This forum here is about the community edition of Songbird. I agree that this fact is not displayed very obviously though. But check on that page, and you'll see the message: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird

I hope this helps you because after I put 15 songs on mine it was cool !!!

  • Hi Natasha, didn't mean to insult anyone, but you can't call a free (and for many people great) software "pile of shit" just because you don't know exactly how to use it or without knowing that it's in fact the fault of the software.

Back to your problem, i am still not sure if i understand it right. Music gets transfered, but not in playlists. Is that right? and MTP mode is turned on. Is that right too?

I had a similar problem with my gogear. I just had to use the "repair"-function in my philips device manager software. i dont know if your player came with that, but it helped me.

If i misunderstood you again, you should explain in more detail what exactly the problem is.

  • I’m happy now
Ok, I never actually called it a "pile of sh*t"-I just agreed with what James said-and besides the problem is now solved-I traded it in for a Nano and I'm happy now-MUCH better :)

  • I hope your computer won't crash, then. Make sure you backup your music elsewhere that on your nano (because you can't copy it back from the nano to your computer).
Good luck with the Evil ;)

  • I also have philips songbird. Have the playlists created in the software and then syncronise them to my MP3 but they do not appear at all. I don't know what I am doing wrong??? I have tried updating the latest version etc but I agree it is not very good or intuitive

  • I’m unsatisfied by Philips MP3-Player
Initially I bought a Philips GoGear Ariaz 8GB (SA4ARA...) because I don't wan't to go the Apple way. But now I feel like a poor sold soul....!!!

The reason I bought an MP3-Player was to shuffle the whole content on it by using it in my CAR connected to the Radio without investing any further effort and only enjoying my Music.

The shuffle algorythm is not worth to wear this name - it's always playing the same songs, it never remembers where it stops and plays the songs mostly with slightly changes in the same order after switching the device on. This was already approved and confirmed by the Philips service. If I follow their recommendation to start the shuffle mode with a different song I have to choose before. This helps not at all, mostly I hear the same songs again and again - from this pov 250MB would be enopught and the other 7 GB are wasted totally.
If Philips engineers and developers do their job good, why do I need to take action to (try to) get what I payed for?

Now I tried it with Playlist but now I jump out of the frying-pan into the fire - nothing works as expected. M3U Playlist (57,3 KB) are not recognized by the GoGear and if I would synchronize it via Songbird I get the message that 3,1 GB space is needed - no further comment!

Songbird is from my pov an immature SW which crashes many times and is definetively user unfriendly, had low perfomance and is totally unintuitive pile of bytes under a GUI.
If you would argue that this is 'professional' you'll never get what is really professional. And on the other hand I never had asked for professional sw, all what I want is a SW which supports me for my needs and Songbird is a whole failure and anything but useful.

I'm short before the point where I will open the window of my car and throw this crappy device against the next wall. Maybe the next time when I switch it on and hear 'Hells Bells' 3 hundredth time like the following 20 songs....

My Plan was to support european companies because I'm eurpean but it seems philips should do only electrical toothbrushes and not to play with technologoies they can't handle.

  • I managed to make 5 lists in Windows Media Player and then save them as .m3u before loading it onto Go Gear. That was great until this time around. Go Gear decided not to support this file format when it came to playback. Im having all sorts of problems, been hours trying different methods. I have given up. What frustrates me is that I wrote the method of how I made it all work the first time only to find that it is not working this time. Naturally I blamed myself but I now have no choice but to decide it is Go Gear Raga. What a waste of a day. My friend went and picked up a little mp3 player on special for $20 and had it loaded and was using it the same day. I am so sorry to say goodbye to my first little audio player but Im going to do the same thing. Bye bye hassles

  • I had this problem and after pulling out my hair this is how i solved it. I've made this as simple as possible, so there are a lot of steps, but they're easy. Believe me if I can do it anyone can, as I'm a computer idiot.

1( Turn on your device (mine is the Phillips Vibe)
2( Music will show, scroll down to settings, click on settings, scroll down to "Pc connection preferences
    3( Select MSC
    4( Navigate back to music

5( Connect your device to a usb port on your computer.
6(The device turns on. Select the top of the two options, "transfer music and charge".

7( Open "Songbird" on your computer, wait for it to recognize your device, look in
the upper left hand area of the songbird window where it will show when the device is recognized.

Below is the critical step. If you simply drag and drop files from your pc directly to a playlist, and then transfer them to your device, they will arrive as M3u files which the Vibe does not support.

8( Drag your MP3 files from where ever they are on your computer and drop them into the Music file in the "Library" section of songbird in the upper left hand corner of the songbird window.
9( Drag and drop all MP3 files from the songbird library to the "device" area.
10( Click on the + button on the right side of the "playlist" bar to create and name a playlist.
11( From the songbird library, drag and drop whatever files you want in your playlist to your newly created playlist.
12( Left click on your new playlist, and drag it up to the device and drop it.

Now unplug your device, wait for the "music" item to appear (if there's a lot of music it may take a while), click it, go to playlists, click that, find your newly created playlist, click it, and the files you have added should be there, and they should also play (bonus!).
