  • Not sure but imo this is digital art. I have thousands of these ants in my garden but they never do something like this, it's impossible.

  • I agree, most of his ant shots belong in digital art, unless Mr. Adiyanta has become the first man in history to actually train ants to do complex circus tricks. Perhaps he could show us the originals straight from his camera.

  • Also multiple similar images- potential duplicates of close up insect faces that seem to have just been flipped. Some of them have been removed since I reported them last week....
Also, another reason why I'm a skeptical voter now.
Some of them are ALMOST believable- until you see multiple ants lined up in a row ...or piled on top of eachother. I think one ant might be able to hold up a light fluffball thing- but to get them all to do it at once?

  • To answer the original question Charliemagne, I would think Animals / Insects would be more appropriate but since we don't moderate subcategories it is up to the photographer to get them into the right subcategory.

I looked at the images and can not see any outward evidence of manipulation, would love to hear how this level of manipulation is done, it would be tedious to cut out the ants and place them into an image with out having extraneous or missing pixels around the tiny legs. Admittedly I am not an entomologist so have no idea what the little guys are physically capable of. We don't have circus ants in the US! I do know he flips his pictures sometimes so that the hanging ants are upright instead.

  • oh they are hanging??? I really couldn't figure this out.... I googled him, and he has lots of work other places. Maybe he sets his camera up - and like water droplets, he has a microsecond to work with....but maybe he puts them in a predictable posing scenario (like piling them all up or something?) knowing that for 1/2 a second they'll look cool before they fall off the branch.
So, I guess what makes me skeptical (but happy to be surprised when I find it's real) is that there are photographers here who capture AMAZING group photos of birds fighting over food at a feeder, or fish by the lake- AND there are also photographers here who digitally compose photos so that two birds appear to be in the same photo, but are not. There are those who photograph actual insects, and those who compose a giant ladybug on a lizards nose.

I just don't know who to believe anymore!! I guess because I'm a cynic, if I see something unbelievable I don't believe it..... but I do my research, look up people elsewhere, and this photog looks like he's consistent in his work at least.
He should offer an online class in how to do it!!! Lots of photogs make money teaching these days!
    • We went through the account and removed true duplicates about hmm a month ago I guess, and at that time there were the exact same poses of the ants hanging and doing handstands or if you just flipped the image it was the same, so all the duplicates were removed at that time. The point here being that the ants looked much more natural hanging so that may have been their true orientation?

Looking at them now, I am not seeing many duplicates, I think I reported 2 sets. As for similar, the same rule would apply to the ants as does with people, if it is a different pose, background, props etc then it would be not be considered similar.

As for the physical stacking of ants LOL, I would love to be there to see it! I hope these guys don't sting!
