Nature Photography over in the US?

www.esquire.com/blogs/news/1000-dolla...

The above link explains a new law that will go into effect November 2014 in the US. No more amateur photography will be allowed in American National Parks, National Forests, National Monuments, or National Lakeshores. Including Cell phone pics and videos. Professional photographers will require a 1500 dollar permit and will have to abide by Government guidelines while in the Parks, I have checked this info on multiple websites and news services. If it is not accurate I sincerely apologize...But sadly, it seems to be true...A petition against it may be signed at change dot org.

  • if you haven't already looked into this situation.... amateur photographers were NOT included in this ruling... it is made for professional photography such as advertizements and going into protected territories. because professional media uses all sorts of lighting and vehicles and leave a mess behind. do not get all upset with this, still photography is generally not a part of the legislation, unless you are changing the area with props etc. like building a cabin or some other structure. http://www.modernhiker.com/2014/09/25... check this out before you get up in arms.

  • Golly gee, Joyce...what in the world is your definition of "up in arms", and "all upset?" Posting a link on a forum!? I Checked five news sources that confirmed my original take on this story, even a petition circulating against it could be found...I have decided to give up posting on this forum, too many folks are sitting coiled up, ready to strike, poised to attack, Just waiting for someone to say something they deem accusable. If something like this law was about to happen I would want to know about it, and thank the person who posted it, even if they were wrong!..It's everyone personal responsibility to do their own fact check on any posted info. This is the most antagonistic forum I ever been a part of... Sorry to everyone, and Joyce...my arms are down.

  • RELAX Tim,,,, the 'you' in my comments was a reference to the collective readership... I was simply making a comment that blogs, forums, and the internet in general take on lives of their own and rumours can get totally out of hand. All of the information that I could find concerning this situation that arose in September is that it affects commercial endeavours, not private photographers, and that still photography is not the target for either unless environmental interference is a result. When media pulls stories out of context and start fear-mongering, when people spread that misinformation and start petitions, and when that is picked up and posted as fact.... I only want to slow down the snowball and let the story cool. I AM sorry if you felt antagonized. That was not my intention. Please do not read more into this than what is intended. I have also seen how some comments can be very personally offensive and that is not what was happening here.... hang in there and continue to post your views on any subject here... I like to read what you write. oh by the way, you can raise your arms now to hold that camera again :)

  • Clearly an over reach of the Government. We the people own the National Parks and thus should be able to photograph them whenever we want. Professional or Amateur.
    • Sonya, the regulations are really the same as they were before... the push is not to get money for photographing the mountains etc, it is to protect the environment. commercial and professional photography, especially videos and such can do so much damage in non-public accessible areas. They haul in trucks with lifts, lights, props, and actors... they tear up the ground, leave behind crap and destroy habitat. Getting a permit gives the government some one to hold responsible if that happens. This is exactly what I was trying to head off, There is more to the story and the tangent that some media has shot off into is not the situation at all. Some one reads a very small out-take and extrapolates it into "Government is the bad-guy" conspiracy. Some groups took this to mean that media could not video news stories, so that environmental groups decided that the government was trying to hide environmental issues, etc. Still photographers thought the government was trying to nickel and dime them out of subjects and got all upset. Managing the public lands for the long term use of those lands is what the government is supposed to do.

  • The Park Service now says this has been cancelled "due to public outcry".
