Ratings Removed from My Photos, Due to New Classification Added by Pixoto

It appears that Nature Up Close has added a new category, which was needed. However, someone at Pixoto reclassified my photos into this category, causing me to lose my high ratings in the contests I was entered in. This is causing me to dislike this website and want to seek a new photography site.

  • Hello Suzanne, we didn't add a new subcategory under Nature up close category in years. Can you please post links to images in question so I can check what the issue is?

  • Hello Suzanne, I've checked what the issue is. You submitted images of insects to Nature up close category. Insects belong in Animal category, always have been (since 2011), and don't belong in Nature up close category - you can check category description page here: http://blog.pixoto.com/category-descr...

You submitted two of your images on January 25th, 2018 and third image on January 28th, 2018 - so in last 3 days. Since insects are part of the Animal category (and always were, as I explained before) your images were reported as being in incorrect category and recategorized to their correct category - Animal category.

    I hope this helps.

    • Thanks, but no thanks, "Official Rep" - from reading a lot of comments here, there are some real problems with Pixoto. I don't care to offer my photos to the site. I see many, many, many photos that are miscategorized. Quite certain that someone with technology knowledge would be able to write computer code that would render it possible that when a photo was reclassified, that ratings would not be lost. Pixoto lacks the technology skill to make this happen, though the site has been in existence for many years? "Official Rep", sure seems like your management could look into the technology solution, given the skill set of those in technology outside of Pixoto. But it would appear that Pixoto is not current with it's technology, and pushes blame off onto the user. Poor management practice. Upgrade your site.
    • Suzanne, as explained before, we rely on users to report images in the incorrect category, so please do report them.
Suzanne, when the image is recategorized it will lose all points, awards, and score - it was meant to be - it is programmed that way - it is not lack of technical skill.
That is because the image was in incorrect category and dueled images that it shouldn't duel in the first place, and it would be an unfair advantage for the image to keep score, points, and awards from the category where it shouldn't be in the first place.

      I hope this helps.

  • And every year for several years, I asked about re-classifying insects out of animals! But it's okay! :)
It's kind of hard to run butterflies and bees and spiders against elephants and tigers and bears. Oh well.
