I’m confused

The case of the missing votes

I think some votes on my pictures go missing, unrecorded.

  • Thanks Jason for your response. When I post a picture, the vote for that picture reaches over 400 in 30 minutes to one hour and then stops completely. So even though the picture could be in a good standing and gets more wins than losses, and even though I add imageduels but still wouldn't get enough votes the make it win, I find that to be odd. I think the votes either go missing or your system stops the picture exposure to voters too soon. Regards.

  • Ahh - I see what you are saying. You're not missing votes but I do understand how you could feel that your images are getting slowed down too early. We use a very sophisticated algorithm that predicts the final placement of your image based on it's current duel history. That prediction becomes increasingly accurate as more duels are received. At some point if your image is not trending into award territory (no matter how many votes it gets in the future) the system will pause (or dramatically reduce) the number of votes your image gets. You can use duel boost to increase the number of votes your image receives beyond this - but this will rarely result in an award above 20% unless the image was already trending there anyway.

    I hope this helps.

I find that to be unfaire. The image seemed to be trending well until it is intentionally slowed down by your system. Why would your system predicts that an image will not win if that image had many more wins than losses regardless of the imageduels. I think images should be given longer time space before determining it will not win. I think all images should have equal chances over the changing traffic figures and background of voters from different parts of the world of the site throughout different timezones over at least 12 hour period.
For example, If I post a picture of a church with a cross, it may not get votes from Brunei and the vote then will slow while voters from the western world are stil asleep, and vice versa.
The result on the long run will be against your site's interest since your process are unintentionally separating the votes to timezones rather than for the good picture (Asians will vote asian and westerners will vote westerner). Best regards.
