v1.07 Patch Notes

I'm baaaaaaack! Finally.

Here are the patch notes for FEZ v1.07, which is already pushed to Steam and should come on GOG and Humble tomorrow.


  • Fixed a shader link error on Radeon X1300

  • Holding left and right rotation buttons will not make the totem level glitch out anymore

  • Removed stray trile in the zu library level

  • Added command line toggle for disabling steamworks : --no-steamworks

  • Fixed that the "continue game" button would be grayed out if game saved in gomez's house

  • Fixed rare bug related to the audio system

  • Fixed occasional texture repeating in the "zoom in" start new game sequence

  • Fixed crash in puzzle rooms when stacking 4 crates on top of each other

  • Fixed z-fighting in first person view on some hardware

  • Fixed wrong cube model showing up in inventory in a late-game level

  • Fixed warp gate viewport shows up always-on-top when seen in stereoscopic view

  • Added invert mouse option in settings file

  • Tentatively fixed audio device detection

  • Tentatively fixed animated sprites border clamping issue when anisotropic filtering is forced

  • Very tentatively fixed 5.1 audio redirect to 2 channels



It's been a long time, and I apologize, but between E3 madness and Canadian summer happening and the desire to have a social life, FEZ patching time has been scarce recently.
Hopefully this addresses most of your pending issues.

  • Thanks for continuing on improving the game :-)

    I'm playing with the Xbox 360 controller and when invertMouse is set to false in the settings file, the first-person view controls are inverted. Setting it to true makes it normal again. I think this should be the other way around.

    There is also a bug that crashes the game when trying to reset game settings to default before entering the game world. I believe this only happens on saves that have unlocked stereoscopy mode.

  • Thanks for the updates. Alas, my graphics card died, again... in the middle of playing Fez, no less. It was inevitable, though. The card has been in an oven once already (if you're confused about that last sentence, watch this youtu.be/pDW7Hnzq5pU). I guess it's time for an upgrade.

  • i just downloaded fez off gog 2 days ago and have been experiencing crashes on the "tetris puzzle block" level.

    The game crushes (for me) after the "Fez uses an auto-save mechanism" page (i.e. before getting to the menu). I'm on version 1.07. Help? :)

  • It seems that Fez is grabbing save and settings files from Steam Cloud despite having SC disabled across the entire Steam application. Can someone confirm this? Could it be that files are being pulled from somewhere else on the hard drive? This was happening in previous versions as well.

    Anyway, I can't replace the current settings file with my older one. Making it "read only" prevents the game from booting up.

    • Thanks for the info. That command did the trick.
    • A couple observations.




      • The save files are being pulled from
        C:\...\Steam\userdata\18878532\224760\remote\. EDIT: I take it by files being silently created you meant only the Settings file? END EDIT. When --no-steamworks is NOT present in the launch options, even if Steam is offline and I'm disconnected from the internet, the files will be moved over. I had 3 save files in the Remote folder. I deleted the ones in the Roaming\FEZ folder.
        When all three moved over, they would all show up in the game. When I then deleted everything in the Remote folder (but not in the Roaming\FEZ folder), only the last loaded savegame would show up in the game. Meaning, the other two save files got corrupted in the process, seemingly because there was nothing to relate to in the Remote folder (but then why is the last loaded savegame showing up?). Also, if the Remote folder is empty, as soon as a savegame is loaded, a copy will be created in the Remote folder.



      • My old Settings file was being deleted and replaced because of the missing invertMouse parameter, which was not present in the file when I stopped playing a little over a month ago. With regard to invertMouse, as was mentioned before, it is set to false, which also messes with the keyboard controls in first person mode, which are now inverted by default. Changing False to True fixes this.
